Closure Confirmed: Guests Instantly Lose Access to Disney World Theme Park
Closures are nothing new at Walt Disney World Resort. This week, the Central Florida vacation destination confirmed that Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park has once again shut its gates, instantly cutting off access for eager visitors.
For the first time in years, Disney Parks fans enjoyed this past summer with both water parks open simultaneously. From May 21 through September 7, 2025, guests could choose between the tropical vibes of Typhoon Lagoon and the frosty slopes of Blizzard Beach. It marked the first season since 2019 that both destinations welcomed swimmers and thrill-seekers at once.
Good morning friends!
Throwback to a Blizzard Beach visit in 2021!
Do you use your free water park ticket on check-in day?
We have not! But I do love the water parks!
Have an awesome day folks!
Summer is already one of the busiest times of year in Central Florida, and the unusual overlap only added to the crowds. Disney Resort hotel guests now receive complimentary water park admission on their check-in day, making them must-do stops rather than optional vacation add-ons.
That brief era of double water park access ended on September 8, when Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park officially closed for a scheduled refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the news with a statement on its website:
“Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is currently unavailable. During this time, we encourage you to visit Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.”
Although the update provides no reopening timeline, the closure isn’t entirely unexpected. For years, Walt Disney World Resort has rotated the refurbishments of its two water parks, keeping one open while the other receives scheduled maintenance.
Blizzard Beach, which opened in 1995, was the third water park to debut at Walt Disney World Resort, following Typhoon Lagoon in 1989 and River Country in 1976. However, the number of water parks dropped to two when River Country closed in 2001.
As of now, Blizzard Beach’s reopening date remains unannounced. Based on past refurbishments, it’s likely that the park will return when Typhoon Lagoon closes for its seasonal maintenance. With cooler weather approaching in Florida, both water parks operating together again this year seems highly unlikely.
In the meantime, Walt Disney World Resort vacationers looking for water park fun will need to head to Typhoon Lagoon, which continues to operate as usual.
