Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Replaces Feminine Fairy Godmother Dress With Gender-Neutral Look

Disney has updated the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Magic Kingdom Park with new, gender-neutral costumes for cast members, marking the latest change to the fan-favorite salon experience. This update rolled out alongside other operational changes on Wednesday, including simplified pricing tiers and special appearances from the Fairy Godmother during children’s makeovers.

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, located in Cinderella Castle, provides children ages three to twelve the opportunity to transform into Disney Princesses, charming knights, or even one of the sisters from Encanto (2021). Packages range from a simple T-shirt and sash to a deluxe gown, depending on the experience chosen. Locations at Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa have remained closed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort revamped the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, allowing cast members of all genders to work at the salon. Previously, only those identifying as female could serve as Fairy Godmothers In Training. The update introduced both feminine and masculine costume options for the employees, who are now referred to as Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices.

According to WDWNT, Magic Kingdom Park has now rolled out a new costume for Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices. Inspired by the Fairy Godmother herself and similar to the attire worn on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish, the outfit includes a white long-sleeve button-up under a periwinkle blue vest, matching periwinkle blue pants, a maroon bow tie, and a brooch nearly identical to the one featured in previous designs.

Previously, feminine-identifying Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices wore purple, pink, or blue frocks with short-sleeve light-colored button-ups, long purple skirts, and blue headbands with veils. Masculine-identifying cast members wore purple vests and slacks. With the new update, all Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique employees will wear the same gender-neutral outfit, regardless of personal gender identity.

The Disneyland Park Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique location implemented the same operational updates this month; however, it has not yet been confirmed whether cast members there will wear the same new costume as those at Magic Kingdom Park.

  1. I’m not going to take my granddaughters there with this change. Why didn’t they leave well enough alonè!

  2. This was such a magical experience when my daughters were young! They would be so excited to get made up before breakfast! When we walked by recently and saw men in dresses, we were so glad our girls are well past the age limit! There’s always the Pirate’s League if they still take everyone over 3. I don’t understand why women can’t still dress like women and wear dresses/skirts like fairy godmother? They shouldn’t have to change to appease a small class of people! Women can wear dresses and men can wear shorts or pants. It’s too hot in FL for long sleeves w/vests over and long pants when it’s not truly necessary! Disney should have left things the way they were pre-covid; they’re taking away ALL OF THE MAGIC!

  3. Disney needs to replace whoever is doing these redesigns. Main Street outfits now look like a cheap highschool production of some musical. Soarin outfits look like flight-themed cocktail waitresses. Now this. It has to be cost-saving, because none of these are improvements.
