Beloved Magic Kingdom Show Pulled for New Year’s Eve in Major Update
For so many Disney fans, there’s no better way to end a day at Magic Kingdom than by standing shoulder to shoulder on Main Street, U.S.A. and watching Happily Ever After light up the night sky. It’s become a can’t-miss part of the Disney World experience—one that guests build their entire evening around.

But if you’re planning to spend New Year’s Eve at Magic Kingdom this year, you might want to adjust your plans. Disney just confirmed a major update that’ll shake up the fireworks schedule, and yes—Happily Ever After is being pulled for those two nights.
A Temporary Swap, Not a Permanent Goodbye
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief: Happily Ever After isn’t going anywhere long term. Instead, the show will be swapped out on December 30 and December 31 for the park’s annual Fantasy in the Sky fireworks spectacular. This holiday tradition has been lighting up Magic Kingdom for decades, and it’s returning with two nightly performances at 7:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m.
That means guests will have two chances each night to celebrate—whether you want an early countdown with the kids or the full midnight moment to ring in 2026.
Disney has also confirmed that Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will be shown to regular guests beginning on December 22.

Why the Switch Makes Sense
New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest times of the year at Disney World. The park typically reaches capacity early in the day, and the entertainment lineup shifts to match the massive crowds. By bringing back Fantasy in the Sky, Disney leans into nostalgia and gives guests a festive, high-energy way to celebrate together.
The dual showtimes also help disperse crowds a bit—families who can’t make it to midnight get their own early celebration, while night owls soak in the big one.
What You Should Know Before You Go
If you’re visiting during New Year’s weekend, plan ahead.
-
Arrive early if you want a prime fireworks spot—Main Street fills up fast.
-
Expect heavy crowds and longer-than-usual waits for transportation after the fireworks end.
-
Consider mobile ordering for dinner to avoid long quick-service lines.
-
And most importantly, know that Happily Ever After will return after the holiday celebrations wrap up.

A Night to Remember
There’s something special about Magic Kingdom on New Year’s Eve. The energy is different, the countdown is unforgettable, and the fireworks are some of the most over-the-top displays Disney puts on all year. While Happily Ever After will sit this one out, the holiday spectacular promises to make the night just as magical.
