Autopia Attraction Evacuated at Disneyland After Vehicle Crash

Disneyland Resort evacuated Autopia over the weekend after a vehicle derailed for the second time in eight months, forcing Disney cast members to manually remove the crashed car from beside the track.

Instagram user @hellena_hex posted a video showing Disney cast members pushing a red car out of a grassy area while guests exited the queue:

“If you’re wondering why Autopia got evacuated today…because one of you can’t drive.”

The Tomorrowland attraction shut down following the crash but had reopened by the time this article was published. Disneyland Resort has not commented on the incident.

Recent History of Derailments

The most recent derailment, in June of 2025, was the first in years. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace documented that crash with photos of a red car on its side in grass off the ride track:

First time I’ve actually seen a car derailed on Autopia. Attraction is completely shut down. #Disneyland

Two derailments in eight months are unusual for Autopia. The vehicles ride on a preset steel track designed to prevent them from steering off course. Derailment requires significant force or a malfunction with the car, track, or safety barriers.

Electric Conversion Planned

Disneyland Resort announced in April 2024 that Autopia would convert to fully electric vehicles by fall 2026. Disney hasn’t provided updates as the deadline nears, but the change would eliminate Tomorrowland’s gas fumes and improve the attraction’s appeal.

The repeat crashes suggest potential maintenance issues beyond the planned electric conversion. The 70-year-old attraction’s steel guide rail system should prevent vehicles from leaving the track under normal operation, making multiple derailments within months a concerning pattern for guest safety.

Whether the derailments stem from vehicle problems, track deterioration, or barrier failures remains unclear, as Disneyland Resort has not provided an explanation.
