Alligator Wrangled in the Middle of Fireworks Show at Disney World

If you’ve spent much time in Florida, you probably already know that the local wildlife doesn’t always stick to the swamps. From the occasional snake to the infamous gator, nature has a habit of showing up in the middle of the magic at Walt Disney World Resort. And even with all of Disney’s extensive safety measures, there are still moments where real-world creatures make an unexpected appearance.

That’s exactly what happened recently at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, a resort known for its peaceful, rustic vibe. But that serenity was interrupted when guests noticed something big—and toothy—lounging near the resort’s lake.

A Gator Sighting Turns into an Unexpected Show

Guests spotted the alligator relaxing on the edge of the water, and naturally, the moment was caught on camera. The footage shows the gator soaking up the sun while visitors looked on in shock and curiosity. Soon after, a wildlife expert arrived on the scene to begin what would turn into an entertaining and slightly bizarre removal process.

@curiousgeorganna I am so glad they got him! It was good entertainment from our balcony, but also scary to see a gator on Disney property. This just reminded me to be even more aware of the lakes/ponds on Disney property/FL in general. I was really happy to know they have professionals come and remove the gators and take them away! Thank you gators catchers for keeping us safe! 🙏🏼🙌🤍 #disneyfyp #fyp #gatorindisney #wildernesslodge #disneyworldexperience ♬ Road To Oregon – Charlie Jefferson

Marshmallows? Really?

To lure the gator closer, the team used—of all things—marshmallows. Apparently, those fluffy little sweets are a treat gators can’t resist. The expert gently tossed a few into the water, hoping to guide the reptile toward capture. It didn’t quite work that first night, but the professionals came back the next day prepared.

They set up a proper trap, and that evening—right as guests were watching the Happily Ever After fireworks explode in the sky—the gator was finally caught and relocated.

Disney’s Commitment to Safety

Disney has long taken wildlife encounters seriously, especially after a tragic 2016 incident. Signs now warn guests near water, fencing has been added, and Disney works with trained professionals to remove animals in a humane way. This recent case was no exception—the alligator was relocated safely, with no harm to it or any guests.

It might not be the fireworks display anyone expected, but it certainly made for an unforgettable night at Wilderness Lodge.

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
