Airline Closes Forever Effective Immediately, Leaving Central Florida Travelers Stranded

Travelers planning their dream Walt Disney World vacation earlier this year may have faced an unexpected hurdle at the very start of their trip. In March 2025, guests flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO) were surprised to find that all Silver Airways flights had been suddenly canceled—with no warning or explanation.

The abrupt move by Silver Airways left both passengers and airport officials at a loss. According to WFTV, even the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority was caught off guard. Angela Stark, a spokesperson for the authority, stated, “We received notification this afternoon that, effective immediately, all departing and arriving flights with Silver Airlines are canceled.” No additional details were made available at the time.

Known for servicing destinations across the Southeastern U.S. and the Caribbean, Silver Airways had quietly removed Orlando from its online booking platform. Though flights in other regions remained listed, any service to or from MCO vanished without explanation, leaving those with booked itineraries scrambling for alternatives.

The situation has only grown more serious in the months since. In a June 11, 2025 update, Silver Airways confirmed it has ceased operations entirely. The announcement, shared via the airline’s official Instagram account (@flysilverairways), revealed that the company’s restructuring plans had failed.

“Dear Silver Airways Customers. We regret to inform you that we are ceasing operations as of today, June 11, 2025,” the statement read. “In an attempt to restructure in bankruptcy, Silver entered into a transaction to sell its assets to another airline holding company, who unfortunately has determined to not continue Silver’s flight operations in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean.”

They also advised customers not to go to the airport, recommending that passengers seek refunds through their credit card providers or travel agencies.

Silver Airways had previously entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in hopes of maintaining flight operations while reorganizing its finances. At the time of filing, they stated that existing tickets would still be honored. However, the recent closure has rendered all future bookings void.

For visitors bound for Walt Disney World Resort, this disruption serves as a sobering reminder of how travel mishaps can occur even before arriving at the parks. With MCO being the primary gateway for Disney-bound guests, such interruptions inevitably ripple into vacation plans.

For those planning an upcoming trip to Central Florida, it’s more important than ever to consider travel protections and contingency plans. Choosing airlines with multiple daily routes or securing comprehensive travel insurance can offer much-needed peace of mind during uncertain times.
