Nestled along the bustling streets of Magic Kingdom Park, The Plaza Restaurant has been a guest favorite since the park’s grand opening on October 1, 1971. Known for its turn-of-the-century charm and comforting American fare, it remains a staple for those looking to enjoy a relaxed meal with a prime view of Cinderella Castle. While reservations are required, The Plaza Restaurant often has more availability than some of Magic Kingdom Park’s more high-profile dining locations, making it an ideal choice for guests who want a classic Disney dining experience without the long wait times.

What’s New at Magic Kingdom? A Subtle but Significant Refresh

Construction walls appeared around The Plaza Restaurant in February, signaling an unannounced refurbishment. The restaurant remained open, but guests were left wondering what changes might be in store. On Tuesday, the scrim covering the upper floors was finally removed, revealing that much of the exterior remained untouched. While some second-floor window planters were missing their usual flowers, the facade itself looked nearly identical to its pre-refurbishment state.

By Wednesday, the construction walls had come down completely. According to a report from WDWNT, the updates appear to be largely cosmetic, with no significant structural changes. It’s possible that the building received a fresh coat of paint, but there were no dramatic shifts in design or color.

Main Street, U.S.A.’s Evolution Continues

While The Plaza Restaurant’s refurbishment is now complete, some details suggest the project may not be fully finished. WDWNT notes that certain elements—like the restaurant’s black roof, which still appears faded, and chipping paint along the side of the building—may still need attention. The second-floor flower boxes also remain empty.

Meanwhile, work continues at The Emporium, Magic Kingdom’s largest gift shop. Since January, crews have been making gradual updates to the interior, blocking off sections of the store as they reportedly work to improve guest flow. While Walt Disney World Resort has not provided official details on the renovations, the ongoing construction suggests that Main Street, U.S.A., is getting more than just a light refresh.
