Disneyland guests know that some of the resort’s most memorable experiences come with an expensive price tag. But a few lucky visitors recently discovered that one popular Star Wars offering doesn’t always require paying hundreds of dollars.
The experience normally costs nearly $250, making it a major purchase for families already spending plenty on their vacations.
However, one frequent Disneyland visitor recently shared how he participated without paying the usual price.
There’s a catch, though. The opportunity wasn’t part of a traditional promotion, and most guests shouldn’t expect to receive the same treatment.
A $250 Experience That Many Disney Fans Dream About
Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers remains one of the more expensive experiences inside Disneyland Park.
Located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the attraction allows visitors to build their own custom lightsabers during an immersive ceremony.
Disney employees, known as Gatherers, lead participants through the process. Guests select their preferred lightsaber themes, choose components, and assemble their creations while the workshop comes alive with music, lighting, and storytelling.
The experience ends with participants activating their completed lightsabers, creating a memorable moment for longtime Star Wars fans.
Of course, all that comes at a price.
Disneyland currently charges $249.99 plus tax for the experience and completed lightsaber.
For families hoping to build more than one, the cost can quickly climb into the hundreds.
However, one guest recently discovered an unusual exception to that expensive requirement.
Experienced Savi’s Workshop for the first time. They were offering “complimentary” services – meaning you could build but were not obligated to buy while they train new “Gatherers”
Really enjoyed it the experience.

Disneyland Guests Receive an Unexpected Invitation
A frequent Disneyland visitor recently described participating in Savi’s Workshop without purchasing a lightsaber.
According to his account, he joined a couple of other visitors inside the workshop while Disneyland trained new Gatherers.
Rather than conducting a regular paid session, Cast Members practiced guiding guests through the lightsaber-building ceremony.
The visitor, an adult not accompanied by children, participated in the interactive experience without paying the usual $249.99 fee.
He selected components, followed the ceremony, and experienced the same general atmosphere that makes Savi’s Workshop popular.
However, Disney didn’t allow him to take his completed lightsaber home.
The complimentary session covered participation only, meaning guests could enjoy the ceremony without receiving the expensive souvenir.
Although the visitor expressed some disappointment about leaving without his creation, he appreciated the unusual opportunity.
Importantly, this wasn’t an advertised giveaway or an official discount. Disneyland reportedly asked guests to participate because employees needed training.
And there’s another distinction worth understanding.

Disney Already Offers a Separate Complimentary Experience
Disneyland currently advertises another way to participate in lightsaber building without paying the standard price.
The Youngling Saber Building Expo – A Loth-Cat Crew Experience gives children, families, and visitors who are kids at heart an opportunity to explore the building process.
Disney offers this limited-time experience daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with walk-up participation subject to availability.
Guests can explore lightsaber construction and become members of the Loth-Cat Crew without paying the regular $249.99 fee.
However, Disney doesn’t include a complimentary lightsaber. Participants who want to keep one must purchase it separately.
While that sounds similar to the visitor’s experience, the circumstances were different.
The Youngling Expo is an officially advertised offering designed for younger guests and families.
The adult Disneyland visitor, meanwhile, participated in a separate employee-training session without accompanying a child.
Disney doesn’t advertise these training opportunities as regular guest experiences, and visitors cannot reserve them through an established booking process.

Could You Experience Savi’s Workshop Without Paying?
For Disneyland visitors hoping to save money, the training story raises an interesting possibility.
Both Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World operate Savi’s Workshop locations inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Guests could politely ask Cast Members whether any training opportunities are available, although Disney hasn’t announced an official program allowing visitors to register.
There’s also no confirmation that similar opportunities are available at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Even at Disneyland, guests shouldn’t expect an invitation simply because they ask.
The officially advertised Youngling Expo remains the clearer complimentary option, provided Disney continues offering it during their visit.
Ultimately, the unusual training session shows that a few lucky visitors may get to enjoy an expensive Disney experience without making the usual purchase.
They won’t necessarily leave with a custom lightsaber, but experiencing the ceremony without spending nearly $250 could still make for a memorable Disneyland visit.
