Disney World Implements Sweeping Resort Restrictions, Changes Guest Access
Walt Disney World continues to make major changes across its property, but not every update involves a new attraction, construction project, or restaurant opening.
Throughout 2026, Disney has introduced several restrictions that change how guests access its resort hotels, transportation services, and dining locations.
Some of these policies affect visitors staying outside Disney property, while others could surprise guests who regularly visit resort restaurants before or after spending time inside the theme parks.
From stricter parking requirements to changes involving mobile food ordering, Disney is making it more difficult to use certain resort amenities without meeting specific requirements.

And with another restaurant update arriving near Magic Kingdom, guests have even more changes to keep track of before their next vacation.
Disney World Restricts Resort Transportation From Disney Springs
One of Disney World’s biggest policy changes took effect on June 28, 2026.
Disney introduced new verification requirements for guests attempting to board resort transportation departing Disney Springs.
Previously, visitors could park at Disney Springs for free and use Disney’s transportation system to reach nearby resort hotels.
From there, some guests would transfer to other transportation options to reach the theme parks.
However, Disney has tightened those rules.
Guests now need to verify that they have an active Disney resort hotel reservation or a qualifying advance dining reservation before using affected buses and boats departing Disney Springs.
Disney can verify eligibility through MagicBands or compatible mobile devices.
The restrictions also extend to water transportation, including the Sassagoula River Cruise.
For years, some visitors used Disney Springs as an alternative starting point for their theme park visits, avoiding the parking fees charged at Disney World’s theme parks.
The new requirements make that practice considerably more difficult.
Guests who simply want to visit Magic Kingdom cannot assume they can park at Disney Springs and board resort transportation without meeting the eligibility requirements.
Parking Restrictions Expand at Magic Kingdom Resorts
Disney has also tightened parking access at some of its most popular resort hotels.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are among the locations where parking restrictions become particularly important during busy periods.
During major holidays and other high-demand dates, visitors may need an active resort reservation, dining reservation, or qualifying recreation reservation to park at these hotels.
These restrictions are especially significant because both resorts offer convenient access to Magic Kingdom.
Guests have traditionally enjoyed visiting the monorail resorts to explore their restaurants, shopping locations, and themed surroundings.
However, Disney doesn’t want visitors using resort parking lots as alternatives to designated theme park parking.
The restrictions help reserve available spaces for hotel guests and visitors with legitimate resort reservations.
That doesn’t mean guests can no longer visit the Grand Floridian or Polynesian.
Instead, visitors should understand that parking availability and entry requirements can change depending on the date and operational conditions.
Anyone planning to drive to a resort should check the applicable restrictions before arriving.

Disney Changes Mobile Ordering at Resort Restaurants
Disney’s resort dining operations are also experiencing changes.
Select quick-service restaurants near Magic Kingdom have introduced location-based restrictions affecting mobile food orders.
These restrictions use geofencing technology, which can prevent guests from placing mobile orders unless they are physically at or near the resort.
Locations associated with these restrictions include Contempo Café at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Select dining locations at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge have also been associated with similar requirements.
For guests visiting Magic Kingdom, these restrictions can create an additional inconvenience.
Someone inside the theme park might want to place a mobile order at a nearby resort before traveling there for lunch or dinner.
However, location-based ordering restrictions can prevent guests from completing that order while they are still inside Magic Kingdom.
Instead, visitors may need to arrive at the resort before they can use the mobile ordering feature.
These changes don’t necessarily prevent guests from purchasing food at the restaurants themselves.
They primarily affect how and where mobile orders can be submitted through the My Disney Experience app.
Polynesian Resort Adds Another Mobile Ordering Option
While Disney has restricted mobile ordering at select resort restaurants, it has also expanded the service elsewhere.
According to reports from WDWNT, Wailulu Bar & Grill at Island Tower, part of Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, launched mobile ordering for its grab-and-go breakfast on October 20, 2026.
The breakfast option first appeared in the My Disney Experience app the previous week, although arrival windows weren’t initially available.
Guests can now select an available pickup window and place breakfast orders directly through their phones.
The restaurant offers grab-and-go breakfast from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., with selections including pineapple-coconut bread.
Wailulu Bar & Grill already provided mobile ordering for takeout lunch and dinner, alongside its table-service dining experience.
The new breakfast option expands the restaurant’s existing service and gives visitors another way to grab food before heading into the theme parks.
However, guests shouldn’t assume the new offering means they can place orders from anywhere on Disney property.
Location requirements can vary by restaurant, making it important to check the app before planning a pickup.
What Guests Should Expect Moving Forward
Disney World’s latest restrictions could change how some visitors plan their vacations.
Guests staying at Disney resort hotels may appreciate policies designed to preserve transportation capacity and parking availability.
However, visitors staying off property or planning to explore different Disney hotels may encounter additional requirements.
The changes are particularly important for guests visiting Magic Kingdom, where nearby resort hotels have long served as popular dining destinations.
Between transportation verification, parking restrictions, and mobile ordering limitations, visitors can no longer assume that every resort service operates the same way it did in previous years.
Disney continues to expand convenient features, including mobile ordering at additional restaurants.
At the same time, the company is placing tighter controls on how guests access certain services.
For families planning a Disney World vacation, checking resort access requirements before leaving their hotel or theme park could prevent unnecessary frustration.
