Private Company Seizes Disney World for the Night, Guests Removed

If you were counting on a late night at Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we’ve got news. The park closes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, four hours earlier than its usual October closing time. The reason, according to the report, is a private buyout by Gartner.

Before you panic, there are other places to spend the evening. We’ve pulled the hours for every park, explained the early closure, and flagged a couple of spots where the reports don’t match. Let’s get into it.

A quick note on sourcing: the hours come from the schedule in the report, and the event details come from last week’s reminder and the conference website. When they differ, we’ll say so and leave it there.

Today at Hollywood Studios

The park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Early Entry from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. for Disney hotel guests. Normal mid-October hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., so today’s schedule is a significant cut.

By the Numbers

Here’s the math from the listed hours. Normal mid-October hours of 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. add up to 12 hours. Today’s 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. adds up to eight. That’s the four hours lost, and it’s the whole reason this is worth a second look if you had plans for the evening.

What’s Going On

Last week’s reminder tied the early closure to a private event associated with the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026, which runs from October 19 through October 22 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. It said Hollywood Studios would host an evening event from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., so regular guests must leave before it begins.

The conference website says: “Join us for our Special Event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park! From 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., we’ve reserved the entire park for you to enjoy entertainment, thrilling rides, and delicious food. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss, reserved just for you!”

Wait, Which Start Time Is Right?

Good catch if you noticed. The report says the evening event runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., while the conference website quote says 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. We aren’t picking a side, and the information we have doesn’t explain the difference. The part everyone agrees on: the park closes to regular guests at 5:00 p.m. today.

Where to Go Instead

Here’s today’s schedule, as listed in the report:

  • Magic Kingdom: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Early Entry 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Animal Kingdom: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Early Entry 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.; Extended Evening for resort guests 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • EPCOT: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Early Entry 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Blizzard Beach: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Typhoon Lagoon: closed today

The Report’s Pick

The report says that if Hollywood Studios was your evening plan, EPCOT is the best alternative for a full evening out. It stays open until 9:00 p.m. and is running normal hours today.

For a later night, Magic Kingdom’s listed hours run until 10:00 p.m.

Fine Print Check

One detail doesn’t line up perfectly. The report’s opening says Animal Kingdom’s Extended Evening hours are for Disney Deluxe resort guests, while the schedule lists “resort guests.” We’re repeating both as written, so double-check the official listing if you’re counting on it.

And as always, hours can change. Confirm today’s schedule in the official app before heading out.

How to Play a Shorter Day

Last week’s reminder suggested prioritizing headline attractions earlier in the day, naming Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, especially for guests hoping to avoid long queues. It also suggested guests could consider heading to another park after leaving, after checking that park’s hours first.

Those are the report’s suggestions. They’re not guarantees about wait times, and we don’t have information on how crowded the park will be today.

The Rest of October

Today isn’t the only date with changes. According to last week’s reminder, Magic Kingdom has repeated early closures this month because of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select evenings. Guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. on multiple dates, including October 22, 23, and 25.

The reminder also says EPCOT will delay its opening to 10 a.m. on October 23 and 25 for Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. And it notes that three of Disney World’s four theme parks are affected by operating changes at some point this month, recommending that guests check the official calendar before traveling.

Two Dates, Two Very Different Nights

Look at Magic Kingdom. Today, its listed hours run until 10:00 p.m. On October 22, 23, and 25, guests without a separate party ticket must leave by 6 p.m. Same park, very different evenings.

The information we have doesn’t say how often private events cause early closures, so we aren’t claiming a pattern.

A Few Quick Planning Notes

Check the hours for your exact dates before you build a plan. If one park is closing early, look at the others’ listings. Keep in mind that options like Extended Evening are limited to certain guests, and that Early Entry at Hollywood Studios is listed for Disney hotel guests.

If your trip has several park days, glance at the whole week’s hours. A change like today’s is much easier to handle when you’ve seen it coming.
