Universal Orlando Issues Urgent Warning, Guests Told To Prepare for Resort-Wide Delays

Orlando’s latest stretch of severe weather is starting to affect theme park operations.

Central Florida entered Tuesday under another unsettled forecast, with repeated rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms expected throughout the day. A stalled front is keeping deep moisture over the region, pushing rain chances as high as 80% to 90%.

The pattern is expected to continue through Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasters say another one to two inches of rain could fall across the region, while isolated areas may receive four inches or more.

Some Walt Disney World Resort guests have already canceled or rearranged their trips as a result. Now, Universal Orlando Resort is preparing its own visitors for disruption before they even leave the parks.

Universal Warns Guests About Delays Tonight

Universal Studios Florida posted a new notice Tuesday warning guests that leaving the resort could take longer than usual.

The notice says: “Please expect delays departing the Theme Parks and Universal CityWalk this evening.”

Inside Universal shared the notice on X.

Universal has not said in the notice what is causing the anticipated delays.

However, the warning comes as heavy rain creates the potential for standing water and slower traffic across Orlando. Thousands of guests can leave Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and Universal CityWalk within the same evening window.

Poor road conditions could therefore quickly create backups around the resort.

Stormy weather can also disrupt operations before guests even reach the exits. Universal Orlando warns that severe weather may temporarily affect outdoor experiences, particularly when lightning moves into the area.

That includes major attractions such as Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure, as well as Stardust Racers at Epic Universe.

Stardust Racers is already under scrutiny for a separate reason. A recently filed lawsuit alleges that a boy suffered head, facial, orthopedic, and spinal injuries after losing consciousness while riding the Epic Universe roller coaster.

Tuesday’s warning nevertheless concerns the resort more broadly, with Universal specifically telling guests to prepare for delays when leaving its theme parks and CityWalk.

Florida Faces Another Developing Weather Threat

The heavy rain over Orlando is not the only weather issue being monitored in Florida this week.

Forecasters are also tracking AL92, a disturbance over the southwestern Gulf of America that became better organized Tuesday morning.

The National Hurricane Center has given the system a 90% chance of development within both the next 48 hours and the next seven days.

Conditions could allow AL92 to become a tropical depression soon. If it strengthens into a tropical storm, it could receive the name Isaias.

Its eventual track remains uncertain, and forecasters have not yet established what impacts, if any, Central Florida could experience from the system.

Rain chances remain high through the middle of the week, meaning visitors should expect wet conditions even beyond Tuesday. Heavy downpours could also make travel around Orlando slower than normal. Meanwhile, a tornado was reported at Disney World over the weekend.

Universal Orlando Resort has not announced widespread theme park closures as a result of Tuesday’s weather.
