Two Disney World Resort Areas Stay Dark as Closures Are Extended
Disney World guests, we’ve got bad news for the sleep-in crowd. Disney has quietly pushed back the finish dates on two resort refurbishments, which means the daytime construction noise isn’t leaving anytime soon. Throw in a short Skyliner shutdown early next year, and your hotel plans might need a second look.

Here’s the full breakdown of what changed, where it’s happening, and how to keep a trip from turning into a jackhammer wake-up call.
Nobody books a Disney resort hoping to hear a power saw before breakfast, so a little advance knowledge is worth a lot. Think of this as your heads-up before you lock in a room.
Ten of 22 Hotels Are Under the Hammer

Walt Disney World has 22 hotels, and ten of them are being refurbished right now. We’re talking room renovations, exterior maintenance, and structural updates all happening at once. That’s a lot of construction for a vacation destination where people go to relax.
Just as some of those projects looked close to done, Disney slipped out updated notices for two of them.
Old Key West Gets a Fuzzy New Deadline

Over at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Hospitality House is getting exterior maintenance. That’s the resort’s main hub, with the lobby, concierge, Olivia’s Cafe, and other amenities. You may see or hear work during the day, and you might be told to use alternate walkways.
The original plan had the work wrapping up in mid-September 2026. Now the notice says “through fall” of 2026. Notice what’s missing? A real date. If you’re staying there this autumn, assume there will be some noise near the center of the resort. Since the lobby and dining are right there, you’ll probably walk through it more than once a day, so it’s worth knowing before you arrive.
BoardWalk Inn’s Timeline Slides Into 2027

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is being refurbished slowly but surely. The lobby is already finished. Disney had said the whole project would end in late 2026, but that deadline was quietly bumped to 2027. So if you’re visiting the BoardWalk next year, you may still see and hear construction. That’s a long runway, and it’s the kind of detail that’s easy to miss when you’re booking months in advance.
There’s also separate routine maintenance coming to the Luna Park Pool, the Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations. It runs from January 11, 2027, through April 2027, so if a poolside drink is on your wish list, check the dates first.
The Skyliner Is Going Dark for a Week
Another heads up for early 2027. The Disney Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment from January 24 to January 30. While it’s down, Disney will provide buses from the EPCOT area hotels to Hollywood Studios. You can also take a boat from the resort to Hollywood Studios or EPCOT, or walk from the BoardWalk to the parks.
Those options work, but they’re not as smooth as floating over the treetops. If you rely on the Skyliner, plan for extra travel time that week.
How to Not Let Construction Ruin Your Sleep
Here’s the thing. Resorts under refurbishment generally stay open, and plenty of guests have a great time anyway. But a little prep goes a long way.
Check Disney’s refurbishment notices before you book, and check again before you travel since dates can change. When you reserve, you can ask for a room away from the active work area, but Disney may not be able to promise it. Pack earplugs. Seriously, they’re cheap and they work.
Timing Your Day Around the Noise
Daytime work is usually loudest right when you’d like to be snoozing. A smart move is to start early and be out the door before the noise kicks in, or plan a late morning at the parks and head back to the room earlier in the day. Matching your schedule to the construction can make a refurbished resort feel a lot calmer.
Last-Minute Checklist
Confirm whether your hotel is on Disney’s refurbishment list. Think about how much time you’ll actually spend in your room. If the Skyliner is part of your routine, plan alternatives for the last week of January 2027 and leave yourself a cushion, since buses and boats can take longer than gondolas when everyone is headed the same way.
It’s not a reason to cancel a trip. It’s just a reason to read the fine print before you book, so you know exactly what kind of morning to expect.
