A telltale sign of Central Florida’s brutal summer remains fixed in place along one EPCOT walkway, as an industrial fan continues cooling Walt Disney World Resort guests passing between the Italy and American Adventure World Showcase Pavilions, even as fall festivities take over the second Central Florida Disney park.
Orlando’s Historic Summer
Summer 2026 proved to be one for the record books in Central Florida. ClickOrlando reported that July temperatures in Orlando averaged 84.4 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the city’s second-hottest summer on record, surpassed only by the summer of 1903.
The extreme heat came paired with elevated heat indexes across Central Florida cities, alongside noticeably reduced rainfall compared to previous years. What rain did fall tended to arrive in short, isolated bursts, contributing to the region’s longest severe drought since 2000.
Throughout the summer, guests at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park encountered repeated heat warnings, with officials advising visitors to take shelter indoors or schedule frequent breaks during the day’s hottest stretches. In response, Walt Disney World Resort ramped up its cooling efforts beyond typical seasonal measures to help protect guests from heat-related illness.
Cooling Measures at EPCOT Linger Into Fall
Despite the arrival of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, signaling the start of Walt Disney World Resort’s fall season, the heat in Central Florida hasn’t fully let up, with temperatures still regularly reaching the high 80s.
That persistent warmth explains why a large industrial fan remains stationed along the walkway between the Italy and American Adventure World Showcase Pavilions at EPCOT, roped off with yellow tape to keep guests safely clear of its spinning blades. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace documented the fan’s continued presence on September 30, posting:

Disney will likely remove the fan once temperatures finally begin to cool later in the year.
