Atlantic Dance Hall closed its doors for regular operations after its final weekend, running September 25 through 27, wrapping up years as the go to nightclub for guests 21 and older. But if you’re a fan of BoardWalk nightlife, don’t panic just yet, because Hurly-Burly opens October 1 in its place, and after getting an early look, we can confidently say this new spot brings a lot more to the table than we expected, food included.

What Happens to Atlantic Dance Hall Now
Atlantic Dance Hall isn’t gone for good, but its role is shifting significantly. Rather than welcoming guests nightly, it’s now reserved for private events through Disney Meetings & Events and Disney Fairy Tale Weddings. Walt Disney World’s own description does a great job capturing what made the venue special for so long. “Get into the groove at this stylish nightclub and dance to hits from the ’80s, ’90s and today,” it reads. “When the sun goes down, the party gets started at this stunning Art Deco ballroom. Watch the stars twinkle on the ceiling above the expansive dance floor as you strut your stuff.”
That same listing highlights the balconies overlooking Crescent Lake, which honestly might be one of the most underrated views on the entire BoardWalk. During its final weekend, Atlantic Dance Hall kept its usual 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. hours, closing out a long run as a nightly staple for guests 21 and up.
The Space Next Door Already Gave Us a Hint
This isn’t the first nightlife change at the BoardWalk recently either. JellyRolls, the dueling piano bar located just steps away, closed back in spring 2025 after nearly 30 years in business. That footprint is exactly where Hurly-Burly has taken shape, giving Imagineers a genuine blank canvas to reimagine the whole concept rather than simply refreshing what was already there.
Hurly-Burly Comes With a Whole Backstory Worth Exploring
Here’s where things get genuinely fun. Disney built an entire fictional history around Hurly-Burly, and it shows in every corner of the space. According to the story, the Hurly-Burly Theatre once entertained crowds with a rotating cast of vaudeville performers, including resident headliner Polly Delmar, known for ocean themed acts, maritime melodrama, and what Disney playfully calls plenty of “pearl clutching performances.” The theater eventually closed, and performers reportedly left behind costumes, props, and personal belongings, hoping the venue might someday get its encore.
Nearly a century later, that’s exactly the story Disney is telling. Old programs, tickets, telegrams, costumes, and props are scattered throughout the room, and several items shown in vintage performance posters can actually be found tucked away elsewhere in the space. Keep an eye out for Pearl, a puppet who once performed alongside ventriloquist Mother Muriel in Mother Muriel and the Illustrious Pearl, supposedly left behind to watch over future performers. There are also notes exchanged between Polly and the Siren Sisters, hinting at friendships complicated by some serious dressing room drama.
One Venue, Completely Different Vibes Depending on the Hour
Hurly-Burly genuinely transforms throughout the day. It opens at 4 p.m. with a family friendly focus, complete with a host leading trivia and games inside the theater. We got to try Disney music bingo during our preview, where instead of calling numbers, the host played Disney songs and guests checked their cards for matching characters. Simple, but genuinely charming, especially for families looking for something low key to stumble into during an afternoon at the BoardWalk.
Once 9 p.m. rolls around, the whole atmosphere shifts into a 21 and older venue with live music taking over. Disney’s planning a rotating lineup spanning modern vintage and Motown era sounds through Top 40 hits and music from the ’70s through ’90s. During our visit, a vintage inspired band performed contemporary songs in a 1940s style, complete with vocals, drums, bass, and saxophone. It was genuinely one of the highlights of the whole preview.
The venue opens officially on October 1.
Now Let’s Talk About the Food, Because It’s Really Good
The menu leans into shareable plates with Italian American flavors inspired by real boardwalks, particularly Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore. We sampled oven roasted shrimp, roast beef sliders, plant based meatballs in tomato gravy, and mini apple cider doughnuts during our preview. The Italian influence genuinely surprised us, so we asked about it directly, and the team confirmed it ties back to those real world boardwalk inspirations behind the whole concept.
Of everything we tried, the mini apple cider doughnuts topped in miso caramel were the clear standout. Sweet, nostalgic, and exactly the kind of snack that feels right for a night out on the boardwalk. The drink menu plays into that same nostalgia too, with a Caramel Corn Old Fashioned inspired by the classic snack, and a nonalcoholic Overture in Orange for anyone skipping the alcohol but still wanting something festive.

If Atlantic Dance Hall has been part of your usual BoardWalk routine, adjust your plans starting October 1, since nightly access is ending in favor of private events only. Hurly-Burly actually gives you more flexibility across an evening, letting families enjoy the early hours together before adults head back later for the 21 and older live music.
