Disney World’s construction game is moving so fast right now it’s genuinely hard to keep track. New permits keep dropping across the resort, and unless you’re refreshing filing databases daily, you’re probably missing half of them. So we did the digging for you. Ten permits, all recently filed, spanning Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs. Here’s the full rundown.
Pirates of the Caribbean Just Got Two Permits Filed on It
Magic Kingdom accounts for three of the ten, and two of them are locked in on Pirates of the Caribbean. Disney’s Sourcing and Procurement team filed both, one covering the facade and queue at 4873B Caribbean Way, and the other covering the actual show building at 4875 Caribbean Way.
Buena Vista Construction Company got the job, tasked with providing “labor, materials and/or electrical for construction.” Disney hasn’t said what’s actually happening here, but based on the wording, this looks like standard maintenance. No confirmation yet on whether the ride will close for any stretch, or if Disney’s planning to knock this out overnight while the park’s closed. We’re watching closely.
Something Mysterious Is Happening Right Next to Haunted Mansion
Here’s where it gets interesting. Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for general construction with PCL Construction listed as contractor, but the address on file, 1610 Magic Kingdom Dr, literally doesn’t exist yet.
The closest real address belongs to Haunted Mansion at 1600 Magic Kingdom Dr, putting this new project somewhere right around there. Given everything happening with Magic Kingdom’s expansion, this lines up almost perfectly with something Disney already teased. Since the address doesn’t exist in the system, that’s basically confirmation this is a brand new structure, not a renovation of anything already standing.
Our theory? This is a new restroom building for Piston Peak. At D23, there was a scale model of Piston Peak on display in the Horizons Imagineering pavilion, and a building with restroom signage was sitting in that exact spot. Disney hasn’t confirmed it officially, but the timing checks out.
Disney Springs Just Dropped Seven Permits at Once
Here’s where most of the action actually is. Seven separate permits just hit Disney Springs, spread across the whole shopping and dining district. All seven list Buena Vista Construction Company as contractor, all categorized as general construction. Disney’s staying vague, only saying it’s general maintenance.
The one that’s probably going to matter most is the permit covering the pedestrian bridge crossing the lagoon between Marketplace and Town Center, the one by the LEGO Store that connects toward Rainforest Cafe. No timeline yet, no word on whether it’ll actually close. Since that bridge is a major connector between sections of Disney Springs, keep an eye on this one if you’re headed there soon.
The rest of the Disney Springs permits cover Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, Paddlefish, The LEGO Store, The BOATHOUSE, UNIQLO, and Happy Hound Kiosk. Same story, no details on scope or closures yet. What we do know is every single Disney Springs permit expires on the exact same date, September 21, 2027, giving crews a pretty wide runway to get everything done.
Should You Rearrange Your Trip Because of Any of This
Short answer, not yet. None of these permits point to confirmed closures right now, so there’s no need to panic about existing travel plans. That said, general maintenance permits at Disney World almost always lead to some kind of visible change, whether that’s scaffolding, blocked walkways, or shifted hours at specific spots.
If Pirates of the Caribbean is a must do for your trip, check Disney’s official attraction status closer to when you’re actually going, just in case this maintenance turns into a real closure down the line. Same deal for Disney Springs, especially if Raglan Road, Paddlefish, or The BOATHOUSE are on your dining list, or if UNIQLO and The LEGO Store are part of your shopping plans. Nothing’s shutting down based on what we know now, but these permits have a habit of turning into surprise announcements with short notice.
The mystery building by Haunted Mansion is probably the one least likely to mess with your actual visit, since it’s sitting in an area guests don’t typically walk through. Still, it’s a solid preview of how much groundwork happens way before Disney announces anything officially, and it gives a pretty good hint at what’s coming once Piston Peak actually opens.
For now, Disney’s just quietly laying groundwork all over the resort, and we’ll keep tracking this as more permits show up or existing ones reveal more about what’s actually planned.
