A familiar sight has returned to the entrance of Disneyland Park, as the classic Newsstand merchandise kiosk reopens following several weeks of unannounced construction.
Weeks of Closure Come to an End
The kiosk had been closed since at least August 18, when guests first arrived to find it enclosed by construction walls, scaffolding, and scrim fabric. That closure lasted several weeks before finally ending.
According to a report from WDWNT, the Newsstand reopened to guests on September 21. The outlet shared this photo of the refreshed kiosk, positioned just inside the entrance gate on the left side of Disneyland Park:
The Newsstand ranks among the smaller merchandise locations in the Main Street, U.S.A., area at Disneyland Park, offering essential souvenirs such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears, Disney Pin Trading lanyards, bubble wands, and plush toys.
Cast members who spoke with WDWNT confirmed that Disneyland Resort used the closure to install a new roof on the kiosk, apply a fresh coat of paint, and add protective corner guards along the edges of the wooden counter. Those guards are intended to reduce the risk of injury to Disney Park guests who bump into the counter’s sharp edges, particularly younger children who might otherwise strike their heads. Despite the lengthy closure, the Newsstand’s overall appearance remains largely unchanged, just refreshed.
Disney Stays Quiet, As Usual
Disneyland Resort never formally acknowledged the kiosk’s closure, nor did the company share any details about its plans for the space. That silence tracks with Disney’s typical approach to smaller construction projects that don’t require closing major attractions or restaurants.
