Guests planning a trip to Disney Springs might want to brace for some construction, as Walt Disney World Resort has filed a wave of new permits covering everything from the lifestyle district’s signature footbridge to a handful of popular restaurants and shops.
Attention Turns to the Disney Springs Footbridge
Among the seven newly filed permits, the one drawing the most attention concerns the bridge connecting the Marketplace and Town Center neighborhoods across the Disney Springs lagoon. Walt Disney World Resort’s Facility Asset Management Team submitted the Notice of Commencement to the Orange County Comptroller’s Office on Tuesday, September 22.
The document names Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house contractor, as responsible for “General Construction” at 1620 East Buena Vista Drive, the address tied to the well-known footbridge.
Filings from Disney’s Facility Asset Management Team generally signal routine maintenance rather than sweeping changes — larger transformations to an area’s overall theming typically go through Walt Disney Imagineering instead. Still, Disney hasn’t ruled out a temporary closure of the footbridge for structural work, which could send guests on a longer walking route between the two neighborhoods in the meantime.
Several Shops and Restaurants Also Affected
The remaining six permits filed this week each target a different dining or retail spot throughout Disney Springs. Every filing lists Buena Vista Construction Company handling “General Construction” work at these locations: Paddlefish, Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, UNIQLO, The LEGO Store, the Happy Hound merchandise kiosk, and The BOATHOUSE.
As with the footbridge, Walt Disney World Resort has made no public comment on these permits, leaving guests without details about what changes might be coming to these popular spots.
All seven permits filed on Tuesday are set to expire on September 21, 2027.
