Netflix’s biggest hit show is having a rough year behind the scenes. According to The Sun, filming on Season 3 of Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, has stopped again, this time because the scripts are getting reworked. This is officially the second major production setback this year, and it’s happening right as fans are dying for any scrap of news about what’s next.
Given how massive this show has gotten for Netflix, any delay is going to make waves. Here’s exactly what’s being reported, plus some background on where the show’s story actually seems to be heading.
Another Hit After an Already Messy Shoot
This new pause comes just months after production completely shut down on location in Co Wicklow, Ireland. That earlier disaster happened when Eva Green, who plays Ophelia, Morticia’s sister, badly injured her leg on set. Now, per The Sun, filming has stalled again, and this time it’s all about the scripts.
An insider told the outlet the problems go deeper than a few typos. “There have been some questions asked over the writing and the storylines involved in the latest scripts,” the source said. “It’s important that these issues are ironed out before the cast carry on filming, unfortunately it’s central to the show and can’t be ironed out in post-production.”
That last part is the real kicker. Whatever’s wrong apparently can’t just get fixed in the editing room, meaning the whole production is stuck until the writing gets sorted out first.
This Show Just Cannot Catch a Break
This isn’t even the first time Wednesday has hit a wall like this. Season 2 filming got interrupted back in 2023 thanks to the Hollywood writers’ strikes, which slammed productions across the entire industry. The show also lost actress Thora Birch during that same period after she stepped away for a family illness, and her character, Tamara Novak, ended up getting cut from the show completely.
Netflix hasn’t said a word about the current delay, and there’s no timeline yet for how long the rewrites will take. With a release supposedly targeted for next year, this pause is putting some real pressure on that deadline.
Where Filming Actually Stood Before Everything Stopped
Before this latest mess, Season 3 had been rolling along near Dublin since February 2026. Jenna Ortega is back, joined by returning favorites Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, plus a stacked list of newcomers including Winona Ryder, Eva Green, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer.
Netflix still hasn’t dropped an official premiere date, though outside reports have floated a possible late 2027 window. Whether that actually happens probably depends on how fast this script situation gets resolved.
One Storyline That’s Quietly Fading Out
Beyond the production drama, there’s another angle worth watching once cameras start rolling again, involving Wednesday’s love life. Season 1 leaned pretty hard into a love triangle between Wednesday, Tyler Galpin, and Xavier Thorpe, complete with the twist that Tyler turned out to be the Hyde behind a bunch of violent attacks.
By Season 2, Xavier was gone entirely, since actor Percy Hynes White didn’t come back after allegations surfaced online in 2023, which he denied publicly. Netflix never officially tied his exit to those allegations, instead writing him off by sending Xavier to Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland.
That left Tyler as basically the only connection left to Wednesday’s romantic past. Season 2 didn’t bring that relationship back, but it didn’t kill the tension between the two either. Showrunner Alfred Gough has flat out said there’s still something “unspoken” between them, and that sparks fly whenever they share a scene.
Jenna Ortega’s Been Steering This Ship for a While
None of this feels like an accident. Ortega has talked openly for years about hating the original love triangle, once saying it “made no sense” for her character. She’s also admitted to pushing back on creative choices that felt off for Wednesday, and she later praised the decision to ditch a traditional love interest as the show went full horror.
That opinion carries a lot more weight now that she’s an executive producer as of Season 2, giving her real influence over where the show goes. Based on everything she’s said publicly, a full blown reunion between Wednesday and Tyler looks a lot less likely than it did right after Season 1.
Doesn’t mean their history is totally gone though. Gough’s comments suggest the writers still like that unresolved tension. But there’s a big difference between keeping some chemistry around and actually making Tyler her boyfriend again, and it looks like the show is avoiding option two.

Between an on set injury, and now this script mess, Wednesday Season 3 has been through it. Fans hoping this gets sorted quickly are going to need patience, and it’s genuinely unclear if Netflix can still hit that late 2027 target.
