A family visiting Epic Universe expected their afternoon to revolve around one of the park’s biggest roller coasters. Instead, they reportedly left the area after noticing something near the attraction’s exit.
The situation involved a security guard and photographs that the family says he appeared to be taking of guests nearby, including children.
There could be an explanation for what the family witnessed. However, they couldn’t get an immediate answer that eased their concerns. Eventually, they reported the incident so Universal could look into what happened.
For other families visiting the park, their experience shows why speaking up can matter when something doesn’t seem right.
A Visit to Stardust Racers Took an Unexpected Turn
The guest said the incident happened after riding Stardust Racers at Epic Universe.
According to the family’s account, a security guard stood near the attraction’s exit and appeared to use an iPhone to photograph guests leaving the ride. The guest said the photos included adults and children, including their minor daughter.
They also claimed the guard appeared to photograph one woman several times while she waited with a young child.
After watching for several minutes, the guest approached an employee working near the ride exit and asked what was happening. According to the guest, the employee said the guard wasn’t taking photographs and referenced a medical emergency.
The family remained unconvinced.
The guest said their partner walked behind the security guard to get another look and believed he was indeed taking pictures.
Rather than immediately assuming what was happening, the family decided to ask another group of employees.

A Second Conversation Made Them More Concerned
The family approached a booth near Stardust Racers and asked whether photographing guests was part of some normal procedure they didn’t understand.
According to the guest, those employees said they weren’t familiar with security guards using iPhones to photograph people leaving an attraction and didn’t believe it was standard protocol.
The guest then raised concerns that photographs of their minor daughter might be on the phone.
Employees reportedly opened a ticket or report to investigate the situation. They also collected the family’s email address and phone number in case additional information or follow-up became necessary.
Universal has not explained in the information available here, leaving an important question unanswered: Why was the guard allegedly taking the photographs?

Not Every Photograph Signals a Problem
There is an important distinction to make.
People take countless photographs throughout theme parks every day, and guests inevitably end up in the background of other families’ pictures. Theme parks also use cameras across their properties.
The family’s concern centered on what they believed they witnessed: a security guard deliberately photographing multiple people in the area, including minors.
Even that doesn’t establish inappropriate behavior.
There could be legitimate reasons for an employee to document an area. Following an incident, for example, personnel may need photographs showing conditions or how people move through a particular location.
Photographs could also serve operational purposes when evaluating crowd movement, employee placement, equipment, or security configurations.
Those are possibilities; however, they are not confirmed explanations for this particular incident.

Details Can Become Important Later
The family’s decision to report the situation allowed Universal to investigate rather than leaving the questions unresolved.
Guests who encounter something concerning can also make it easier for employees to review an incident by remembering a few basic details.
Writing down an approximate time can be particularly useful. Knowing something happened around 2:15 p.m., for example, provides a much narrower window than simply saying it occurred sometime during the afternoon.
The exact location, an employee description, what the guest personally witnessed, and how long the situation lasted can also provide useful context.
Guests don’t have to determine for themselves whether someone did anything wrong. They can simply explain what they witnessed and allow the appropriate people to investigate.

Families Don’t Have to Ignore an Uncomfortable Situation
For now, the reason behind the alleged photography near Stardust Racers remains unclear.
There may have been a routine explanation that the family didn’t know about at the time. Without additional information, it’s equally important not to assume why the guard may have been taking photographs.
That’s what makes reporting the situation valuable.
Parents who notice something that makes them uncomfortable inside Epic Universe don’t have to make accusations or reach conclusions. They can ask questions, document what they personally observed, and bring the concern to an employee or Guest Services.
The family involved in this incident did exactly that. Universal employees reportedly created a report and took their contact information, allowing the park to determine what happened.
Until more information emerges, the circumstances surrounding the alleged photographs remain unclear.
