Walt Disney World Resort has filed a new construction permit for Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, one of Magic Kingdom Park‘s original attractions dating back to opening day in 1971.
A New Permit Surfaces for a Classic Attraction
Originally known as Tropical Serenade when Magic Kingdom Park first opened on October 1, 1971, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room remains one of the park’s earliest audio-animatronic experiences and is located in Adventureland.
On September 16, Disney filed a Notice of Commencement for construction work at the Adventureland address associated with the attraction. The permit names Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house contractor, as the party responsible for completing the work.
According to the filing, the permit simply notifies the Orange County Comptroller’s Office that Buena Vista Construction Company will “provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction.” Like most permits filed at Walt Disney World Resort, this one carries a standard one-year expiration.
What This Likely Means for Guests
While the Notice of Commencement doesn’t offer many specifics, the identity of the contractor filing it provides some useful context. Because Buena Vista Construction Company is handling this project, Disney Parks fans can reasonably assume the work involves routine maintenance rather than a major overhaul. Permits tied to significant updates, story changes, or full-ride reimaginings are typically filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, not by Buena Vista Construction Company or the resort’s Facility Assets Management team.
Consistent with that assumption, Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced any plans to reimagine or meaningfully update Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. The attraction’s official webpage currently lists no upcoming refurbishment closures, meaning Magic Kingdom Park guests can continue to include the classic audio-animatronic show in their vacation plans without concern.
