Universal is taking another run at bringing Fast & Furious into its theme parks.
The franchise has had a rough history at Universal. Fast & Furious – Supercharged debuted as part of the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2015, before a standalone version opened at Universal Studios Florida three years later.
Both attractions leaned heavily on screens and oversized ride vehicles, an approach that never generated the same enthusiasm as Universal’s more elaborate thrill rides. Hollywood removed its version in 2025, while the Florida attraction permanently closed in August 2026.
Universal has since tried a very different formula. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially opened at Universal Studios Hollywood on September 16, delivering a 72 mph outdoor coaster with rotating ride vehicles designed to recreate the sensation of drifting.
The coaster stretches across 4,100 feet of track and is now the fastest coaster in Universal Destinations & Experiences’ portfolio. Its debut has also brought complications, including noise complaints from nearby residents and criticism over restrictive seating for some taller and larger riders.
Universal Beijing Takes a Different Route
Universal is not repeating that formula everywhere.
Universal Beijing Resort has announced plans for an entirely indoor Fast & Furious attraction as part of its next wave of expansion, opting for an immersive ride experience rather than another version of Hollywood Drift.
The decision marks a departure from the coaster concept previously linked to the Beijing project. Earlier reports and speculation had pointed toward an indoor coaster, but Universal is now describing the project as Asia’s first indoor themed ride experience based on Fast & Furious.
According to the park, the attraction will fold the films’ familiar car chases and action sequences into an indoor environment built around immersive scenes and storytelling. Guests will be placed directly into the action as Universal gives the franchise another major theme park makeover.

Universal has not revealed the ride system, vehicle design, exact location, or opening date. That leaves plenty unknown, including exactly how the attraction will move guests through its indoor environments.
What is clear is that Beijing will not simply receive a clone of the newly opened California coaster. Hollywood Drift reaches 72 mph and uses vehicles capable of rotating 360 degrees, while Beijing’s attraction is being promoted around indoor storytelling and recreated action sequences.
It is another reset for Universal’s approach to Fast & Furious. Supercharged focused on large vehicles, screens, and simulated action, while Hollywood Drift moved almost entirely in the opposite direction, with a high-speed outdoor roller coaster.
Beijing now gives Universal a third route.
Fast & Furious Expands Again at Universal
Beijing’s new attraction is only part of Universal’s renewed push behind the franchise.
Universal Orlando Resort is still preparing its own Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift for Universal Studios Florida in 2027. Unlike California’s layout, the Florida coaster will feature a 170-foot vertical spike rising nearly 17 stories over the edge of Universal CityWalk.
That means Universal will soon operate very different kinds of Fast & Furious experiences across its parks — major outdoor roller coasters in the United States and a new indoor attraction built specifically for Beijing.
Universal Beijing also announced a new Nighttime Spectacular at the Lagoon alongside the ride. The show will combine “light and shadow, music, storytelling, and live interactions,” adding a new nighttime entertainment offering around the park’s central lagoon.
The expansion comes as Universal Beijing Resort celebrates five years since opening in September 2021. The park currently operates seven themed lands, including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Transformers Metrobase, Minion Land, and Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness.
Its lands have previously been criticized for not connecting with the local demographic.
Fast & Furious is also heading back to theaters. Fast Forever, described as the franchise’s 11th main installment and expected finale, is currently set for March 17, 2028, with Vin Diesel expected to return as Dominic Toretto.
Diesel has said filming is expected to begin in December 2026. Louis Leterrier is returning to direct, while Michael Lesslie is writing the latest version of the screenplay.
The film is expected to pick up after the cliffhanger ending of Fast X, while shifting the story back toward Los Angeles, street racing, and the car culture that defined the earliest movies.
