Frontierland at Disneyland Park is quietly transforming this month, as multiple refurbishment projects wrap up across the classic land, revealing freshly updated storefronts and attractions along the way.
Scaffolding Disappears From Two Storefronts
Guests visiting Disneyland Park in early September noticed scrim-covered scaffolding installed atop Pioneer Mercantile and Bonanza Outfitters, two neighboring Frontierland shops. The construction stayed confined to the rooftops, leaving store entrances and surrounding walkways unaffected throughout the project.
Disneyland Resort never publicly addressed the work, which tracks with the company’s usual approach to smaller-scale maintenance projects. Both shops remained open and operating normally the entire time, with construction wrapping up by Wednesday.
A Fresh Look Revealed
According to a WDWNT report from September 16, Disneyland Resort has since removed the scaffolding from both rooftops, sharing photos on social media showing the buildings’ refreshed exteriors.
No visible changes appear to have been made to either Pioneer Mercantile or Bonanza Outfitters as a result of the project, suggesting the work was likely routine roof maintenance that Disney simply preferred to keep out of guest view.
A Wider Wave of Frontierland Updates
This project is just one piece of a much larger refurbishment push currently reshaping Frontierland. Both the Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition and the Mark Twain Riverboat recently returned from their own separate refurbishments, while Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island entered its own closure earlier this week. That interactive attraction is currently projected to reopen Thursday, September 17, though Disneyland Resort’s website still encourages guests to “check back” as the timeline could shift.
Construction has also taken hold around Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurante, where scrim and construction walls now surround the restaurant’s patio and courtyard. The restaurant remains open despite the visible construction, though there’s currently no confirmed date for when that particular project will wrap up.
