Something big is happening to one of Disney’s most iconic buildings, and this time you don’t even need a park ticket to see it. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios is currently buried in scaffolding from the ground floor all the way up to its 199 foot peak, and the coverage has gotten so extensive that it’s now visible from Buena Vista Drive, well outside the park itself. We went out and shot our own photos, and honestly, it’s a lot more dramatic in person than you’d expect.
This isn’t some small patch job either. We’re talking about one of the most photographed buildings at Walt Disney World completely wrapped in construction materials, visible to anyone driving by regardless of whether they have park tickets that day.

Here’s How This Whole Thing Started
Back in March, Disney quietly filed a construction permit for work on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. By early May, crews were already active in the outdoor queue area beneath the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade. Shortly after that, Disney pulled down the flags near the gift shop and wrapped protective scrim around several decorative sections of the exterior, presumably to keep them safe once construction ramped up further.
Scaffolding didn’t actually show up on the outside of the building until July, first appearing above the gift shop before slowly making its way toward the front and up the tower itself over the following months. Just recently, reports confirmed the scaffolding had reached the very top of the structure. Now it’s wrapped around the back too, meaning the entire Hollywood Tower Hotel is currently enclosed from every angle.
You Can Actually See This From Outside the Park Now
This is the part that’s genuinely surprising. Because the scaffolding now covers both the front and back of the building, it’s become fully visible from outside Hollywood Studios entirely. Buena Vista Drive runs close enough to the park that the tower has always stood out to passing drivers, and right now that same tower is completely wrapped in construction materials from top to bottom.
We drove past and captured our own shots, and the scaffolding is impossible to miss rising above the tree line. Guests staying at nearby resorts, people passing through toward Disney Springs, and even drivers on the highway have reported spotting it from a distance without ever setting foot near the entrance.
The Paint Job That’s Actually Behind All This
Based on everything visible so far, the work seems centered around repainting the exterior. As the scaffolding moves across new sections of the building, fresh pink paint keeps showing up underneath, standing out sharply against the older, sun faded coat nearby. The process looks intentional, almost layered, with what appears to be a pink base coat going up first before additional layers get added to recreate that classic weathered, haunted look the tower is known for.
Turns out keeping a building looking convincingly old and creepy takes real work behind the scenes. Faking decades of wear isn’t something Disney can just leave alone, apparently.
Nothing’s Changed for Riders, Just the View Outside
Here’s the good news if you’ve got a trip booked. The ride itself hasn’t slowed down one bit. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is still running exactly as normal inside the park, and Disney hasn’t hinted at any closure because of this work. There’s also no announced timeline yet for when the exterior project wraps up, so this look could be sticking around a while.
Set Your Expectations Before You Snap That Photo
If Hollywood Studios is on your itinerary, the ride experience won’t be any different once you’re through the gates. What will look different is the building itself in any photos you take, or compare against older shots online.
