Fright Fest Canceled: Six Flags Will Not Offer Iconic Halloween Event This Year

One Six Flags theme park is sitting out its most famous Halloween tradition this fall, confirming that Fright Fest won’t be making an appearance for the 2026 season.

Fright Fest Skipped at Six Flags Darien Lake

Fright Fest has long been a fixture at Six Flags theme parks nationwide each September, drawing crowds with scare actors, haunted houses, elaborate decorations, and exclusive Halloween food and merchandise, running on select nights into early November.

But this year, Six Flags Darien Lake is breaking with that tradition entirely. A spokesperson for the Darien Center, New York, park confirmed the cancellation to WROC8 News, though guests won’t be left without seasonal programming.

The park will still run Kids Boo Fest every weekend from September 19 through October 11, 2026. This family-friendly event features trick-or-treating, a costume contest, and occasional character appearances.

The park is also hosting its Oktoberfest celebration, which began August 8 and continues through September 20, 2026, bringing German-inspired dining and live entertainment to the property.

News of the cancellation follows closely behind a lawsuit filed against Six Flags Darien Lake by a guest who alleges the park’s negligence caused him serious foot burns.

Fright Fest Still Running at Other Locations

Guests seeking a Halloween scare elsewhere can still find Fright Fest running at several other Six Flags theme parks this year. New offerings this season draw inspiration from Friday the 13th (1980), The Blair Witch Project (1999), and Final Destination (2000), while returning favorites include haunts themed to The Conjuring (2013) Universe, SAW (2004), The Strangers (2008), Trick ‘r Treat (2007), and Army of the Dead (2021).

Admission to Fright Fest is included with standard daytime park tickets or a valid season pass. Here’s the full list of participating parks for 2026:

• Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, California): Select nights, September 18 – November 1
• Six Flags New England (Agawam, Massachusetts): Select nights, September 26 – November 1
• Six Flags Over Georgia (Austell, Georgia): Select nights, September 12 – November 1
• Six Flags Frontier City (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma): Select nights, September 26 – October 31
