Universal Studios Florida isn’t wasting much time finding a new use for part of its recently closed Fast & Furious attraction.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged permanently closed in August after eight years at the park. Its final operating day was August 16, leaving Universal with a large attraction building in the San Francisco section and plenty of questions about what comes next.
Now, just weeks later, Universal has confirmed a change for one part of the former attraction.
Beginning Thursday, September 3, the UOAP x UOTM discount store will move from the Brown Derby to the former Custom Gear Store, which previously served guests exiting Fast & Furious: Supercharged.
It isn’t the major new attraction announcement fans are waiting for, but it does give Universal an immediate replacement use for part of the location.
Universal Finds a New Use for the Space
The UOAP x UOTM store offers discounted merchandise to Universal Orlando Annual Passholders and Team Members.
Its current Brown Derby location is relatively small, making the former Custom Gear Store an interesting move. The new space is larger and sits directly alongside the former Fast & Furious attraction.
More importantly, Universal appears to have found a use for the retail portion of the location while the future of the larger attraction remains undecided.
There’s currently no indication that Universal plans to immediately begin a major transformation of the former Supercharged building. That could mean the discount store remains there for quite some time.
Still, the move doesn’t answer the question everyone is asking.
What Will Actually Replace Fast & Furious?
Universal hasn’t announced a permanent attraction replacement for Fast & Furious: Supercharged.
That hasn’t stopped the rumor mill.
Several Universal properties have been discussed as possible candidates for the location, including Twisters (2024), Back to the Future (1985), and Ghostbusters (1984).
Another rumored possibility would take a different approach. Universal could potentially develop a flexible space capable of hosting different attractions or experiences over time rather than permanently committing the building to one franchise.
None of those possibilities have been confirmed by Universal.
For now, the UOAP x UOTM store is the only confirmed new use for part of the former attraction.
A Temporary Replacement Could Stick Around
Universal may ultimately have much bigger plans for the Supercharged property, but those plans don’t appear ready to move forward immediately.
That makes the discount store a practical solution.
Rather than allowing the former exit retail location to remain unused, Universal can turn it into an active part of the park again almost immediately.
The bigger transformation could come later.
Until Universal reveals what it intends to do with the actual ride building, guests shouldn’t expect the September 3 change to answer every question about the property’s future.
But only weeks after Fast & Furious: Supercharged disappeared from Universal Studios Florida, one part of the attraction already has its next chapter.
