Disneyland Confirms Immediate Closure of Original Haunted Mansion

The original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park has closed its doors, and the signage greeting guests at the New Orleans Square attraction on Wednesday made clear exactly who is responsible for the temporary shutdown.

Closed as of August 12

Disneyland Resort’s official website confirmed the closure of the Haunted Mansion effective Wednesday, August 12. The park’s operational calendar runs through September 24, 2026, and no reopening date for the attraction appears anywhere within that window. Guests arriving at the New Orleans Square ride on Wednesday found metal barricades blocking the entrance, a closed iron gate behind the barriers, and scrim-covered fencing surrounding the attraction’s perimeter.

WDW News Today shared a photo of the entrance on Facebook alongside images of the themed signage posted around the closure:

The sign on the iron gate, featuring Jack Skellington dressed as Sandy Claws, reads:

“Sandy Claws is busy decking these haunted halls.
Please join us for a frightfully good time after August 21.
Season’s screamings!”

Signs lining the scrim-covered fencing around the attraction offer a secondary explanation:

“The Haunted Mansion is unavailable while our silly spooks are out living it up!
Please visit other spirited attractions in New Orleans Square.”

Metal barriers have also been placed at the ride exit and a nearby stairway.

What Opens in Its Place on August 21

The closure marks the beginning of the annual transformation window for Haunted Mansion Holiday — the Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)-themed overlay that has taken over the Disneyland Park attraction every Halloween and Christmas season since 2001. Tokyo Disneyland introduced its own version of the overlay in 2004.

This year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday opens on August 21, giving the installation crew nine days to complete the transition from the original attraction to the Jack Skellington-led seasonal experience. The overlay is expected to run through sometime in January 2027, though Disneyland Resort has not confirmed a specific closing date.

Should Walt Disney World Resort also offer the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay at Magic Kingdom Park? Disney Dining would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
