The Canada World Showcase Pavilion’s most dramatic natural feature has gone quiet. The scaffolding now stretching across the surrounding rockwork confirms that what began as a mysterious construction project a few weeks ago is a substantive overhaul of one of EPCOT’s most distinctive corners.
Scaffolding Surrounds the Waterfall
On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had installed new scaffolding, some sections wrapped in scrim fabric, behind the brown construction walls that first appeared near the Canada World Showcase Pavilion waterfall in early August. The outlet shared a photo of the expanded construction site, and the most telling detail is what’s no longer there: the water has been shut off entirely, leaving the waterfall dry and the rockwork behind it fully exposed for the first time, visible to theme park guests.
With the water gone, the difference between the surfaces that are normally submerged or constantly splashed and the drier surrounding rocks is immediately apparent. The water-exposed areas are noticeably grayer and more worn — the kind of weathering that accumulates over decades of constant moisture and signals that a repaint of both the water-touched rocks and the surrounding surfaces is almost certainly part of the plan.
Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any statement about the project despite the increasingly visible construction activity. That’s consistent with the resort’s standard approach to refurbishments that don’t force a guest-facing closure.
One detail that makes this particular refurbishment more complicated than most, according to WDWNT, is that many of the plants surrounding the waterfall are real rather than artificial. Their established root systems add a layer of complexity to construction and maintenance work that doesn’t exist in most other areas of EPCOT.
What Guests Can Still Experience
Canada Far and Wide, the CircleVision 360° film that serves as the Canada World Showcase Pavilion’s main attraction, continues to run normally throughout the waterfall refurbishment. The standard accessible entrance to the attraction is currently blocked by the construction setup, but guests who need accessible entry can use the exit entrance instead. Disney cast members in the area can point guests in the right direction.
