Another Walt Disney World park closure is approaching, and guests don’t have much time left before it takes effect.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to temporarily close beginning September 9, 2026. That gives guests less than a month to visit before the water park becomes unavailable.
September 8 will be the final scheduled operating day before the closure. Disney has not announced an official reopening date.
Once Typhoon Lagoon closes, Disney’s Blizzard Beach will remain open as Walt Disney World’s only operating water park.
Typhoon Lagoon Is Closing in September
Guests planning a late summer visit should pay particularly close attention to their dates.
Typhoon Lagoon remains available through September 8. Beginning the following day, guests will need to head to Blizzard Beach if they want to include a Disney water park in their vacation.
The closure itself isn’t particularly unusual. Disney has regularly rotated its two water parks through closures and refurbishments.
However, the past two summers have looked different.
For years following the COVID-era closures, Walt Disney World generally operated only one water park at a time. When one reopened, the other would close.
That changed in 2025.
For the first time since COVID, Disney operated Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach simultaneously during the summer. Guests once again had access to both water parks during the same trip.
Disney followed a similar strategy in 2026.
Both Disney Water Parks Operated This Summer
Blizzard Beach temporarily closed in May for a brief refurbishment before reopening. That allowed both water parks to operate together again during the summer.
Typhoon Lagoon’s September closure will bring that stretch to an end.
Whether this becomes Disney’s regular strategy remains to be seen. However, two consecutive summers could provide an early indication of what guests should expect moving forward.
Disney could continue opening both water parks for the busiest summer period before returning to a rotating schedule later in the year.
For now, Blizzard Beach will be the only available option after September 8.
Another Change Arrives at the Same Time
The closure isn’t the only water park change coming in September.
Disney’s complimentary water park admission benefit for eligible Disney Resort hotel guests ends September 8.
The perk has allowed qualifying guests to visit a Disney water park on their resort check-in day without buying separate water park admission.
Starting September 9, that benefit will no longer be available.
Blizzard Beach will remain open, but guests will need valid admission to enter rather than using the complimentary check-in day benefit.
That makes September 9 an important date for anyone planning a Walt Disney World vacation.
Guests lose access to Typhoon Lagoon and the resort check-in water park benefit at essentially the same time.
Disney has not said when Typhoon Lagoon will reopen. Until another schedule change is announced, Blizzard Beach will carry Walt Disney World’s water park operations on its own.
