The next time you drive to Magic Kingdom, don’t expect your usual route.
Walt Disney World is quietly introducing another traffic adjustment beginning August 10, sending guests onto a newly completed section of Floridian Way as work continues on one of the resort’s biggest roadway improvement projects. The update may not change your destination, but it will change how you get there.
As construction continues around Magic Kingdom, Disney is asking drivers to follow new traffic patterns while crews build the next phase of the expanded roadway system.
What Drivers Will Notice
Beginning August 10, traffic traveling between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will move onto a newly constructed section of Floridian Way.
The updated configuration uses the completed southbound side of the roadway while construction begins on the future northbound lanes. Drivers arriving after August 10 should expect new lane markings, revised turns, and additional directional signage guiding traffic through the construction zone.
Although the route is temporary, it represents another major milestone in Disney’s long-term effort to modernize road access around Magic Kingdom and nearby resorts.
Why Disney Is Making the Change
The roadway adjustment allows Disney to keep traffic flowing while crews continue building the permanent road network.
Two of the project’s three new roundabouts have already been completed. Once vehicles begin using the new roadway, construction can start on the third roundabout near the Magic Kingdom parking lot.
Temporary roads have also been installed to preserve access to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the Wedding Pavilion, and Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort until the permanent entrances are finished.
Guests who drive through the area regularly have already seen other traffic changes, including the permanent closure of the Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way intersection, which altered how vehicles reach Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
The overall roadway project is expected to continue into late 2027.
It’s Not Just the Roads Changing
Construction continues across nearly every corner of Magic Kingdom.
Earlier this year, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened after its major refurbishment, but Frontierland remains an active construction zone as Disney builds Piston Peak National Park. The ambitious expansion will eventually be joined by Disney Villains Land, creating one of the largest transformations in the park’s history.
Tomorrowland is also evolving. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin recently reopened with extensive upgrades, while Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is now closed for a lengthy refurbishment. At the same time, speculation continues surrounding Space Mountain, which many fans believe could become Tomorrowland’s next attraction to receive a significant overhaul.
The construction isn’t limited to Magic Kingdom, either. Disney continues renovating the Grand Floridian Resort lobby, and Lakeshore Lodge is steadily taking shape nearby before its planned summer 2027 debut.
With so many projects happening at once, the changes now begin before guests even reach the front gates. Starting August 10, Disney’s newest update means the drive into Magic Kingdom becomes part of the transformation, too.
