Universal Parks Seek to Revive Previously Dead Classic Attractions?

A silent show building is not usually one of the most interesting sights on the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot. This one, however, used to deliver the final burst of impossible speed on the World-Famous Studio Tour—and activity around it has renewed questions about what Universal may be preparing next.

The former Fast & Furious—Supercharged building reportedly has been undergoing interior clearing, with old attraction materials appearing in trash containers and new utility markings surfacing around nearby roads. Theme-park reporters Alicia Stella and NayNay discussed the observations on the ParkTalk Podcast, identifying a Studio Tour experience based on the 2024 film Twisters as the leading theory.

Universal Studios Hollywood has not announced a replacement, confirmed a Twisters attraction, or disclosed a 2027 opening. The visible activity supports one limited conclusion: the retired building may be moving closer to reuse. It does not tell guests what that reuse will be.

Universal Studios Hollywood’s Supercharged Building Is Being Cleared

Fast & Furious—Supercharged carried its final Studio Tour trams through the experience on March 10, 2025. The screen-heavy segment had served as the tour’s finale since 2015, placing entire tram vehicles between enormous 360-degree projections during a chase involving Dom Toretto and his crew.

Inside the Magic covered the Hollywood attraction’s permanent closure when Universal retired it. The company’s current World-Famous Studio Tour page highlights experiences including King Kong 360 3-D and the Jaws encounter but no longer lists Supercharged.

According to Stella and NayNay, construction markings connected with water and utility lines have appeared around the building and adjoining roads. They also reported seeing its doors open, a warning light indicating activity inside, trash containers outside, and former Supercharged materials being discarded.

The reporters said they were told that the structure is nearly empty and is no longer being used principally for tram storage. Those details have not been confirmed by Universal, and routine removal work can precede several outcomes—including maintenance, long-term conversion, or eventual demolition.

No publicly identified permit currently establishes a heavy structural alteration or a Twisters project. Claims that Universal can retain Supercharged’s existing projection system are therefore technically plausible, but still speculative. Reusing that equipment could reduce the amount of structural work required; it would not prevent Universal from changing or removing it later.

Why the Twisters Theory Fits—but Proves Nothing

The rumored theme has an obvious logic. Twisters, released in 2024 and starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, gives Universal a current film property built around weather effects, rushing vehicles, and large-scale destruction—all elements that could be adapted to a tram-sized presentation.

It would also echo an attraction Universal fans already remember. Twister…Ride It Out operated at Universal Studios Florida from 1998 until 2015, surrounding standing guests with wind, rain, fire, flying debris, and a simulated tornado. That lineage gives the rumor emotional weight, but not official standing. A Hollywood Studio Tour segment inspired by Twisters would not necessarily recreate the retired Florida attraction, and Universal has not said it intends to revive the original concept.

The practical consequence for Hollywood visitors is simpler: the Studio Tour currently operates without the old Fast & Furious finale. Guests still receive the approximately 60-minute backlot experience, but Supercharged is no longer part of it. Anyone planning a 2026 trip should not expect a Twisters replacement unless Universal announces one.

Florida’s Fast & Furious Closure Is a Separate Story

Universal Studios Florida will soon lose its standalone version of Supercharged as well. Universal’s official operating calendar states that August 16, 2026, is its final operating day and that it will be permanently closed beginning August 17—an accelerated timeline Inside the Magic previously reported.

That does not mean Hollywood and Florida are receiving matching replacements. Universal has announced a separate Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster for Orlando, opening in 2027 on the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit site. It has not announced what will occupy the outgoing Supercharged building.

Back to the Future has been linked to that Florida space through previous industry speculation, which Inside the Magic examined in 2025. Twisters has now entered the broader replacement conversation, but neither proposal is confirmed.

For now, Universal has created two vacancies with two distinct possibilities. Hollywood shows reported signs of preparation. Florida has a firm closing date. Everything beyond those facts—including a shared replacement strategy—is still waiting outside the storm cellar.
