Hundreds Evacuated From Disney World Monorail After Service Animal’s Medical Emergency on Board
A Monorail evacuation at Walt Disney World Resort last week ended in tragedy, according to several guests on board.
The Evacuation That Started the Questions

Reddit user u/wishy_washy66 posted to the Walt Disney World subreddit on Tuesday, July 28, looking for answers about an incident they had just experienced on the Magic Kingdom Resort Monorail:
“Monorail Evacuation
Hi does anyone know what happened on the resort monorail tonight? A woman started screaming and we all got evacuated but the people next to me didn’t speak english so I have no idea what happened”
The post quickly drew responses from others who had been on board or had additional context.
What Witnesses Reported

User u/Weird-Toe-6968 identified the cause of the evacuation, explaining that a guest’s service dog had overheated on board the Monorail. The Central Florida heat — which has been severe enough this week to trigger a government-issued Extreme Heat Advisory with heat index values reaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit — appears to have contributed to the animal’s medical crisis.
The outcome, as another commenter confirmed, was the worst possible. User u/Hockey_is_Life wrote:
“Unfortunately it died…Very tragic indeed. I laid in bed crying for hours on end last night. I can hardly eat anything today, I feel so sick about it.”

Whether the service dog had any underlying medical conditions beyond heat exhaustion hasn’t been reported. The full circumstances of how the animal came to be in distress on board the tram are unknown.
Walt Disney World Resort did not issue any public statement about the incident or the death of the service animal. Monorail service connecting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort was operating normally at the time of this report.
The Disney Dining team extends condolences to those affected by the recent tragic incident on the Walt Disney World Monorail.
