Spaceship Earth is about to look very different, and guests with EPCOT visits scheduled this summer have roughly one month before the transformation arrives.

On June 2, The Walt Disney Company unveiled details about its plans to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary across its theme parks, and EPCOT’s most iconic structure is right at the center of it. A patriotic lightshow is coming to Spaceship Earth in honor of Independence Day, temporarily reimagining the geodesic sphere that has defined the EPCOT skyline since the park opened in 1982.

Theme park journalist Scott Gustin shared the details on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Disney says Walt Disney World will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with patriotic lighting on Spaceship Earth, Voices of Liberty performances, the Electrical Water Pageant, Main Street, U.S.A. décor, character experiences, and limited-time food across the resort.

The American Adventure Pavilion in World Showcase will also offer expanded Voices of Liberty programming during the celebration period, with additional daily performances scheduled for the a capella ensemble.

The Fourth of July programming isn’t limited to EPCOT. Magic Kingdom Park will mark the country’s 250th birthday with special performances of the Electrical Water Pageant on the Seven Seas Lagoon and additional patriotic décor along Main Street, U.S.A. Special character meet-and-greet experiences and limited-time food and beverage offerings are also confirmed for Walt Disney World Resort, though specific menus and schedules haven’t been released yet. More details are expected to roll out as July 4 draws closer.

The Independence Day celebration builds on what’s already underway at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, where the Soarin’ Across America overlay has been running since late May as part of the semiquincentennial programming. The Walt Disney Company has also announced a two-hour television special tied to the anniversary.
