Cedar Point Area Is Now Closed, Park Officials Confirm

A popular add-on to any Cedar Point visit won’t be available this weekend, thanks to weather conditions in Sandusky.

The Six Flags-owned Cedar Point issued an official closure notice for Cedar Point Shores water park via its Instagram story ahead of the weekend, informing theme park guests of the temporary shutdown:

“PARK NOTICE
Due to forecasted weather, Cedar Point Shores will be closed May 23-24, 2026.
Stay in the loop before you go! Check the park website & mobile app for all current operational updates.”

As of Sunday, May 24, the closure remains in effect. Cedar Point Shores is currently operating on a weekend-only schedule and won’t reopen until Saturday, May 30, meaning guests visiting the Sandusky, Ohio, destination this weekend will need to make do without the water park.

The main Cedar Point theme park is not affected by the closure and is operating on its normal Sunday schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. That said, individual attractions may be temporarily suspended during periods of heavy rain or active thunderstorms throughout the day.

The National Weather Service Cleveland has been tracking a rough stretch of weather across the region that directly prompted Cedar Point’s decision. On Saturday, May 23, the NWS Cleveland flagged the incoming conditions on X (formerly known as Twitter):

After the widespread rain this morning, there will be a brief lull for most across the region. This afternoon, scattered showers/thunderstorms are likely with a few strong to severe storms possible, primarily in north and central OH. #OHwx #PAwx

Sunday wasn’t looking much better. The NWS Cleveland issued an updated outlook confirming more of the same:

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening with drier weather to start the week on Monday. Temperatures today will be seasonable, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. #OHwx #PAwx

The good news for anyone with plans in the area early next week is that conditions are expected to improve significantly starting Monday, May 25.

Guests planning a Cedar Point visit should check the official park website or the Cedar Point mobile app for the latest operational updates before heading out.
