America Is Turning 250 and Disney Just Gave These Characters Brand New Outfits
America is turning 250 this year, and Disney has been building toward the celebration since Veterans Day 2025. The company-wide Disney Celebrates America initiative has been adding pieces consistently across every platform and property Disney operates, from the Rose Parade in January to the Portraits of Courage exhibit extension at EPCOT to the upcoming Soarin’ Across America opening this summer. This week, the most visually immediate piece of that celebration arrived at Disneyland in the form of brand-new patriotic outfits for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
The new looks debuted during LA Fleet Week at Disneyland, where Disney hosted more than 100 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen for a full day at the park. Mickey and Minnie appeared before Sleeping Beauty Castle in the new outfits for the first time during the event, which also featured a Navy band marching down Main Street, U.S.A., a flag retreat ceremony in Town Square, and a flyover by U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornets.

The New Outfits
Mickey’s look is a full patriotic tuxedo built around his classic formal silhouette. The blue velvet tailcoat features white stars. The light blue waistcoat has star-shaped buttons. The bowtie is sparkly white. The red pants retain the classic big white buttons that are instantly recognizable as part of Mickey’s visual identity. The overall effect is formal and celebratory in a way that feels appropriate for a 250th anniversary occasion.
Minnie’s outfit works from her classic red dress with white polka-dots as the starting point and transforms it through symbolic substitution. The polka-dots have been replaced by stars on both the dress and her signature bow. Sparkly touches appear at the waistband and the center of the bow. The buttons on the chest are star-shaped. Blue layered underskirts add the third color of the American flag to what was previously a red and white look.
Both outfits are expected to appear at additional events as Disney continues its summer celebration leading up to the July 4th weekend.
The Bigger Disney Celebrates America Picture
The new outfits are one piece of a celebration that touches essentially everything Disney operates between now and July 4th.
Soarin’ Across America is opening this summer at both Disney California Adventure and EPCOT, offering an immersive flight experience over the country’s natural beauty and iconic cityscapes. The Portraits of Courage exhibit at EPCOT’s American Adventure pavilion, featuring more than 60 oil paintings of post-9/11 veterans by former President George W. Bush, has been extended through the July 4th weekend. Disney donated $2.5 million to Blue Star Families as part of the celebration’s military family support commitments.
The celebration culminates on the July 4th weekend with a 24-hour multi-platform broadcast across Disney+, Hulu, ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic, anchored by David Muir. Fireworks will be broadcast from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort across all three nights of the holiday weekend on July 3, 4, and 5.
During the LA Fleet Week event, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro presented U.S. military leaders with an American flag flown over Disneyland as a gesture of gratitude for 250 years of naval and marine service.
Mickey and Minnie’s new outfits are the most immediately visible symbol of a celebration that has been building for months. America turns 250 this summer, and Disney is making sure nobody misses the occasion.
