Woman Throws Glass at Disney Hotel Cast Member, Steals Nametag After Not Getting Her Way

A seating disagreement at a Walt Disney World Resort restaurant escalated into a physical altercation that left two cast members shaken and one guest facing a string of criminal charges.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were called to Steakhouse 71 inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort on May 19 following reports of a disturbance. What they found, according to a later public police report, was the aftermath of an explosive confrontation between 57-year-old guest Leslie Helen Varley and two Walt Disney World Resort cast members — all stemming from an argument over where her large dining party would be seated.

The first cast member targeted was a Disney Duty Manager. According to the police report, Varley became “irate” when her seating requests weren’t accommodated and responded by throwing three cups filled with ice and water at him, each one striking the front of his body. She then walked directly up to him, ripped his name tag from his suit jacket, and walked away. When he followed her toward the check-in desk to retrieve it, the situation continued to escalate.

The second victim, another Disney Manager, had initially stepped in to help navigate Varley’s concerns. She informed the group that tables could not be rearranged to seat the party together, at which point Varley allegedly grabbed her by both shoulders and physically shoved her approximately six steps. That same manager witnessed Varley hurl glasses of water and ice at the Duty Manager, four of which shattered, causing roughly $20 in property damage.

What Varley Said

When officers spoke with Varley, she claimed she had overheard cast members discussing her disabled daughter’s interactions with Steakhouse 71 staff. She acknowledged throwing water at the Duty Manager and taking his name tag, but insisted the latter was necessary so she could identify him and submit a formal complaint.

Neither cast member required medical treatment, and neither showed visible injuries. Both, however, chose to invoke Marsey’s Law protections against Varley, securing their legal privacy and the right to be notified of any court proceedings connected to the incident.

Leslie Helen Varley was arrested and booked by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on May 20, 2026, facing charges of two counts of battery, robbery by sudden snatching, and criminal mischief under $200. Walt Disney World Resort issued her a trespass warning covering all property at the Central Florida resort. Should she set foot on Disney property again, she faces the additional risk of arrest for trespassing.

  1. Unfortunately these aren’t the first guests to have issues not getting their way at Steakhouse 71. It seems every time we eat there entitled people either argue over the seating or just move themselves thinking its ok. Which then not only messes with the rotation for servers but operations they don’t understand. Disney is ALWAYS more then accommodating. The cms we have seen this happen to, never argue back. They give the guest what they want, no matter how wrong, and adjust accordingly. I hope the CM are OK and hope she regrets her decision. Also she could have just snapped a photo like other guests love to do. Not lay hands and take a name tag physically.
