Universal Orlando Resort keeps finding new ways to make its attractions feel bigger, more interactive, and sometimes even a little intimidating. Over the past few years, the company has leaned heavily into advanced ride technology, especially with the addition of Epic Universe. Now, a newly discovered patent suggests Universal may be experimenting with one of its strangest ideas yet.
The patent focuses on animated creatures that could physically crawl across ride vehicles during attractions. For some guests, that sounds exciting. For others, especially anyone afraid of snakes or frogs, it sounds absolutely terrifying.

Universal Keeps Pushing Attraction Technology Further
Universal has already shown how far it is willing to go with immersive experiences. Epic Universe became the clearest example of that approach the moment the park opened.
At SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, guests wear augmented reality visors while riding Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. The attraction blends physical environments with digital gameplay elements, making riders feel as if they are actually participating in the Mario Kart universe.
The resort also introduced impressive animatronics in Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. The attraction features huge animated monster figures that move with startling realism, helping create one of the most intense dark-ride experiences Universal has ever built.
Even the coaster technology has become more ambitious. Stardust Racers uses synchronized launches and racing elements to connect the two coaster trains throughout the experience. Over at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure still surprises guests with its famous drop-track sequence tied to the Devil’s Snare scene.
All of those attractions point toward the same goal: making riders feel fully immersed in the experience.

Universal’s New Patent Gets Much Closer to Guests
Universal’s latest patent takes that idea even further.
The filing describes technology that could enable animated figures, such as snakes, frogs, or other crawling creatures, to move directly across ride vehicles. Instead of remaining stationary beside the attraction, the creatures could physically travel along parts of the guest vehicle during the ride.
According to the patent, the system could rely on magnets, vacuum-style technology, or other methods that help maintain contact while the figures move realistically. As those contact points release and reconnect, the creatures would appear to crawl naturally.
That opens the door for some very unusual ride moments.
Guests could suddenly see a frog hopping along the side of the vehicle or a snake slithering only inches away. Universal also noted that the same technology might work throughout attraction sets and moving show scenes.
The effect sounds immersive, but it also feels designed to make guests uncomfortable in the best possible way.

The Technology Could Fit Several Future Projects
Universal has not revealed where this technology might eventually appear. Like many patents, the filing primarily protects an idea rather than confirming a future market appeal
Still, several projects fans immediately connected with the concept.
Rumors surrounding future Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansions at Epic Universe continue circulating online, and magical creature effects would fit naturally into that environment. Seeing creatures interact directly with ride vehicles would feel right at home inside a Harry Potter attraction.
The rumored Legend of Zelda project tied to Islands of Adventure could also make sense for this kind of technology. Fantasy creatures hopping onto vehicles could fit the adventurous tone many fans expect from a Zelda-themed experience.
Some guests have also speculated that the technology could eventually appear inside whatever replaces Fast & Furious: Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida. Universal has not confirmed plans for that space, but many fans believe a major replacement attraction is only a matter of time.
Universal could also add some version of the system to an existing attraction rather than saving it for an entirely new project.

Universal Wants Guests To Feel Inside the Action
Universal Orlando Resort has spent years trying to erase the boundary between guests and attractions. Interactive wands, advanced ride systems, augmented reality technology, and lifelike animatronics have already transformed the parks.
This new patent feels like the next step in that process.
Whether these crawling creatures ever appear inside a Harry Potter attraction, a Zelda-themed land, or another future project, the idea matches Universal’s larger direction perfectly. The company wants attractions to feel active, unpredictable, and incredibly close to riders.
For now, though, the patent remains only an idea on paper. Universal has not officially tied the technology to any future attraction.
Still, if guests eventually find snakes or frogs crawling across their ride vehicles, it will probably become one of the resort’s most talked-about effects almost immediately.
