Disney World Gives “New Hope” to Fans of Failed Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

On the one day of the year that Star Wars fans are most paying attention, Walt Disney World Resort quietly brought back a small but meaningful nod to the short-lived Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

Earlier this year, the Docking Bay 3 sign in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — the former embarkation and disembarkation point for guests traveling between the theme park and the Galactic Starcruiser hotel — was quietly changed to Docking Bay 6. The prevailing assumption was that Walt Disney World Resort was putting further distance between itself and the immersive hotel, which closed in 2023 after just 18 months of operation despite a devoted following and a starting price of at least $4,000 for a three-night voyage.

On May the Fourth, the original sign came back. Central Florida Disney Park guests lining up to pick up mobile-ordered popcorn buckets noticed that the Docking Bay 6 signage had been removed and the original Docking Bay 3 name restored, as confirmed by this photo shared by BlogMickey on social media:

What It Means…And What It Doesn’t

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t explained why the sign was changed in the first place, or why it’s been changed back. No shuttles currently run between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the former Star Wars hotel — the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building is being converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering — so the restoration is purely cosmetic. One possibility is that Disney had been exploring a new use for the Docking Bay 6 space in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge before ultimately deciding to leave the space as it existed during the hotel’s operation.
