Officers Blend In With Tourists
Police deployed multiple units across the Hong Kong Disneyland area and nearby transport hubs during the May Day holiday period.
Undercover officers moved through crowded zones posing as visitors. The goal was to observe how drivers approached tourists and whether any services broke local regulations.
Authorities focused on transport activity, particularly unsolicited offers made to guests moving between the park and nearby locations (via Hong Kong Commercial Daily).
The operation extended beyond the resort itself. Additional officers were stationed at a nearby airport, where similar tactics were used to identify violations in high-traffic pickup areas.
Arrests Made as Crackdown Expands
Undercover officers posed as tourists inside the Disney area, monitoring driver behavior. Three local men, aged between 45 and 78, were arrested after allegedly approaching them and offering rides that broke multiple regulations.
Authorities allege the drivers overcharged passengers, avoided the most direct routes, and failed to display valid taxi licenses. The vehicle involved has since been impounded for further checks.
A separate operation led to the arrest of a 41-year-old driver at a nearby airport. He allegedly solicited business in a restricted parking area and is expected to face prosecution.
Officials said enforcement will continue across major tourist areas, including those linked to Disney. Taxi-related violations remain a priority during peak travel periods.
The arrests follow earlier action tied to park activity in the region. In 2025, eight people were detained during an investigation into unauthorized commercial photography inside the resort.
Authorities said those services violated Disney rules and, in some cases, immigration laws. Officials warned that both providers and clients could face penalties.
