The incident occurred earlier this week after one guest confronted another about smoking in a non-smoking area. According to reports, the guest who had been smoking became defensive when asked to stop.
The situation escalated quickly. The individual then lashed out, repeatedly kicking and punching the other man.
The altercation took place in the Disneytown shopping and dining district of Shanghai Disneyland. Video footage shared by local outlets shows a cast member attempting ā and failing ā to intervene.

On April 27, The Paper reported that the guest had been smoking outside a designated area.
Shanghai Disney Resort updated its smoking policy in May 2025, restricting smoking ā including e-cigarettes ā to designated areas only.
The rule applies across the entire resort, including Disneytown, Wishing Star Park, and on-site hotels.
Rules, Enforcement, and Prior Incidents
Following the incident, Shanghai Disneyland reiterated its policies. Guests were urged to follow park rules, comply with cast member instructions, and report violations rather than confronting others directly.

The resort also stated that misconduct can lead to removal, reports to authorities, or bans from returning.
To reinforce the policy, more than 2,800 “No Smoking” signs have been installed across the property. These are positioned in high-traffic areas such as entrances, queues, and dining locations.
The latest case follows multiple reported incidents at the same park.
In May 2025, two men ā identified by police as Liu, 36, and Yan, 22 ā were filmed exchanging blows near a retail location. Reports suggested the dispute may have started over a photo or queue-related issue.

Similar complaints about smoking outside designated areas have also been reported by guests at Disneyland Paris in recent years.
