A noticeable change is underway at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, as one of its most recognizable features is getting a fresh update.

Guests visiting the resort may quickly spot that work has begun on the massive “POP” sign near Classic Hall. Positioned just behind the main lobby and facing the colorful Hippy Dippy Pool, the sign has long been a go-to photo spot thanks to its bright design and retro flair. Right now, though, it’s looking a bit different as refurbishment efforts take shape.
According to WDWNT, crews have started sanding down the sign’s signature orange paint. This process is stripping the surface back in preparation for a new finish. As that paint comes away, the structure underneath is becoming easier to see, with panel outlines now more visible than before. That detail has sparked speculation that parts of the sign could be replaced rather than simply repainted.
The sign’s white borders and blue trim are also being worked on, leaving the entire structure with a worn, uneven look during the process.

Even with construction happening, the area hasn’t been completely shut down. Workers have been seen actively sanding and prepping the structure, while a green barrier currently sits in front of the first “P” for safety. The flowerbeds that typically surround the sign have also been cleared out temporarily to give crews more space to work.
It’s not just the front getting attention, either. The backs of the letters are also being sanded, with gray patches now visible along the lower sections. That suggests this refurbishment is more extensive than a quick touch-up.
This update is part of a wider effort across Walt Disney World Resort to refresh its hotels. Pop Century itself has already seen several upgrades recently. Classic Hall received a redesigned interior featuring a colorful mural of Mickey Mouse and friends, while guest rooms have been modernized to better match today’s expectations while still keeping the resort’s playful style intact.

For those who haven’t stayed there, Pop Century celebrates pop culture trends from the 1950s through the 1990s. Each section highlights a different decade, with oversized icons like Rubik’s Cubes and yo-yos scattered throughout the grounds. The “POP” sign fits right into that larger-than-life theme and serves as a central visual anchor for the resort.
Location is another major draw. The resort offers direct access to the Disney Skyliner, providing quick transportation to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s one of the reasons Pop Century continues to be a popular pick for both new and returning visitors. The Skyliner has already announced its next annual closure in January 2027.
While the current look of the “POP” sign might feel a little rough, it’s clear that Disney is focused on maintaining even its most nostalgic features. Guests stopping by in the coming weeks will likely see steady progress as the sign is refreshed and brought back to its bold, colorful appearance.
