Tomorrowland Has Been Revived at Magic Kingdom With This Newly Redone Attraction

It is official. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopened at Magic Kingdom this morning. The wait time is already 35 minutes with Spring Break crowds in the park, and it’s climbing fast.

The soft opening period that gave early guests a quiet preview over the past week is over. Lightning Lane is live. Wait times are tracking in My Disney Experience. The full reimagined experience is running under official operating conditions. Meaning every Magic Kingdom guest today has access to what Disney has been building toward through a multi-month refurbishment.

If you are in the park right now, stop reading and go to Tomorrowland. The 35-minute wait you see this morning will not be what you see this afternoon.

What Is Actually Different in Tomorrowland

The reimagined Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is not a restored version of the original. Disney changed enough fundamental components to make the experience feel genuinely new to guests who rode the original dozens of times.

The previous ride vehicles are gone, replaced by completely new vehicles with digital displays showing real-time scoring and rider rankings throughout the experience. Watching your score update live changes the competitive energy of the attraction in ways that waiting until the end of the ride never could.

The mounted blasters are gone, replaced by new handheld blasters. Which can be removed completely from their holders for better aiming. The new blasters feature always-on lasers, updated sound effects, new lighting, and a vibration effect that provides physical feedback. The reactive targets throughout the attraction flash green when hit, giving riders immediate confirmation that a shot connected rather than requiring scoreboard checks.

A new opening scene introduces Buddy, a support bot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, who trains guests before the mission begins. The climactic battle scene has been updated to include Buzz himself, and the new on-ride photo now displays scores for bragging rights. Disney has hidden Toy Story 5 Easter eggs throughout the attraction, giving frequent riders something to hunt for across repeat visits.

The gift shop received upgrades and replacements as well including an updated PhotoPass wall reflecting the reimagined experience.

Why Right Now Is the Best Time to Ride

Magic Kingdom is running at Spring Break crowd levels today. That means the park is at some of its highest attendance numbers. The official opening of a reimagined attraction on a high-attendance day is exactly the combination that pushes wait times toward their daily peak faster.

The 35-minute wait sitting on the boards right now is the lowest number of guests will see today. Go early. Go now. The afternoon version of this wait time is going to be considerably less friendly.

Tomorrowland has its anchor back. The lines are forming. Move fast.
