Pixar Pier looks a little different starting today. Toy Story Midway Mania! has gone dark at Disney California Adventure Park, and Disneyland Resort has given guests almost nothing to work with in terms of what comes next.
What Disney Has Confirmed
The closure was first flagged back in February, with April 6 set as the start date. That day is now here, and the attraction is officially listed as unavailable across the Disneyland Resort app and website.
The only guidance Disney has offered is a prompt to “check back here for updates”: no details of the scope of the work, no projected reopening date, and no hints about what the refurbishment involves.
What Might Be Behind the Toy Story Midway Mania! Closure
Two competing timelines make this closure worth watching closely. The Disneyland70 anniversary celebration, which brought custom graphics and digital Easter eggs to Toy Story Midway Mania! last year, concludes on August 9. If the ride is still behind walls at that point, it would suggest Disney may be using the downtime to retire those themed overlays and restore the attraction to its original configuration.
But there’s another possibility. Toy Story 5 (2026) premieres on June 19. The freshly refurbished Pixar Pier attraction could debut new scenes, updated references, or nods to the fifth film right as audiences are primed for anything Woody and Buzz-related.
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is also shutting down for an indefinite refurbishment beginning April 13, leaving both of Disneyland Resort’s Toy Story (1995)-themed interactive rides offline at the same time. Two closures within the same franchise, right before the summer when a new installment arrives in theaters…
Of course, it’s also entirely possible that both rides simply need routine upkeep before a busy summer season draws larger crowds to Pixar Pier and Tomorrowland.
