Disney Rips Out Tomorrowland Attraction and Hands It Straight to Spider-Man
Demolition has started at Hong Kong Disneyland, and what is being torn down is making room for something that Marvel fans have been waiting for a very long time.
Construction walls and gray tarps are now up across a significant stretch of Tomorrowland. This is now blocking the Tomorrowland Stage and the NRG POD snack kiosk from guest view. A crane is already visible over the skyline. Construction vehicles have been spotted behind the walls. The Stark Expo decals covering the construction walls confirm exactly what is coming and what is already being cleared to make room for it.
A Tower of Terror-style Spider-Man drop tower is on its way to Hong Kong Disneyland. The demolition activity this week is proof that the project is no longer just a concept on a timeline.
The Long Road to This Point
This project has been in development longer than most guests probably realize. Hong Kong Disneyland announced the Marvel-themed Stark Expo expansion to replace part of Tomorrowland back in 2016. The Iron Man Experience opened in 2017 as the first piece of that expansion, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle followed in 2019, replacing the park’s Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters attraction.
The next major addition was supposed to be an E-ticket Avengers Quinjet attraction, with Autopia closing in 2016 to make space for it. A 2023 opening was targeted. It never happened. The project went quiet for long enough that fans began questioning whether it was still moving at all.

Hong Kong Disneyland eventually confirmed the expansion was still planned and delivered a significant creative update. The Quinjet concept was replaced by a Spider-Man attraction, and concept art confirmed the format would be a Tower of Terror-style drop tower. The attraction will feature multiple Marvel characters beyond Spider-Man, though the full roster has not been detailed.
What Is Happening on the Ground Right Now
The construction walls run from the Space Traders gift shop adjacent to Space Mountain through to the Expo Shop. The Tomorrowland Stage and NRG POD kiosk are both behind the walls. The gray tarps suggest active demolition work is underway on those structures specifically.
The Stark Expo decals decorating the walls advertise new pavilions coming soon, keeping the Marvel theming visible while the actual construction work stays hidden. The crane already positioned over Tomorrowland suggests the project is moving toward its vertical build phase in the not-too-distant future.
Why This Is Worth Paying Attention To
A Tower of Terror-style attraction built around Marvel characters is exactly the kind of project that generates genuine excitement. Regardless of which Disney park it is going into. The drop tower format is one that Disney executes better than almost anyone in the industry. Adding Spider-Man and the broader Marvel universe to that framework gives the creative team a rich set of storytelling tools.
The demolition activity this week is the beginning of whatever that attraction ultimately becomes. After nearly a decade of announcements, delays, and creative pivots, something is finally being built in Tomorrowland at Hong Kong Disneyland.
It took a while. The crane is up. The walls are going.
