Disney Just Kicked These Beloved Characters Out of Their Home

Magic Kingdom’s Storybook Circus area is undergoing major structural refurbishment, forcing beloved characters out of their usual indoor location. Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck are now meeting guests outdoors.

The Construction Milestone

The Big Top that houses Big Top Souvenirs and Pete’s Silly Sideshow has reached a dramatic phase:

  • Fabric roof and sides completely removed
  • Only skeletal steel framework remains visible
  • Construction walls surround entire perimeter
  • Themed scrims mask heavy maintenance work

The Smellephants on Parade scavenger hunt has been modified, with several statues inaccessible behind construction barriers.

Why Characters Were Relocated

This isn’t a routine refurbishment. The issues started in late 2025 when guests began noticing serious structural problems:

Visible Damage:

  • Large tears in fabric
  • Stretched seams
  • Support poles pressing through tent material
  • In one area, a pole had already broken through

Pete’s Silly Sideshow showed particularly concerning damage, a large rip that made it clear this was a structural failure, not cosmetic wear.

Disney couldn’t patch it overnight, and they couldn’t keep guests standing under damaged structures. The building was moved up on the refurbishment schedule and closed in January 2026, earlier than originally planned.

Current Character Locations

Despite construction, characters are still available for meet-and-greets:

Minnie Magnifique & The Great Goofini:

  • Meeting near entrance of Big Top area
  • Just outside construction walls
  • Taped-off queue lines on ground

The Astounding Donaldo & Madame Daisy Fortuna:

  • Relocated further back into Storybook Circus
  • Near Walt Disney World Railroad station
  • Sometimes near restrooms

Planning Tips for Guests

Since characters moved outdoors, keep these factors in mind:

Check the App:

  • Pete’s Silly Sideshow listed as “temporarily unavailable”
  • Individual character appearance times still shown
  • Locations may vary

Weather Considerations:

  • Characters take more frequent breaks outdoors
  • May head inside during inclement weather
  • Florida heat and rain impact schedules

Find the Characters:

  • Look for taped queue lines on the ground
  • Check near Storybook Circus entrance for Minnie and Goofy
  • Check near Railroad station for Donald and Daisy

The Broader Problem

This isn’t just about one tent. Multiple structures in Storybook Circus are showing wear:

Design Vulnerability:

Storybook Circus relies on fabric structures to achieve its traveling-circus aesthetic. But fabric doesn’t age like concrete:

  • Stretches over time
  • Weakens in Florida weather
  • Heat, storms, and humidity take toll

Scale of Issues:

  • Big Top Souvenirs showing damage
  • Pete’s Silly Sideshow closed
  • Nearby tents under inspection
  • No clear timeline for completion

What Disney Isn’t Saying

Disney hasn’t issued dramatic announcements. There’s no prominent “temporarily closed” messaging. Instead, changes came in pieces:

  • Closures accelerated
  • Characters relocated
  • Construction walls expanded
  • Permits filed months ago hinted at lengthy timeline

The language matters. This isn’t being framed as a quick refresh or seasonal touch-up. Permits suggest extensive work ahead.

Timeline Uncertainty

Key unknowns:

  • No reopening date for Pete’s Silly Sideshow
  • No timeline for Big Top Souvenirs
  • Unclear how much of Storybook Circus could be impacted
  • No indication whether other tents need similar work

When structural damage enters the conversation, timelines change. Plans shift. What starts as one closure can expand.

The Temporary Reality

For now, Storybook Circus remains open:

  • Dumbo still operates
  • Characters still meet guests
  • Land functions normally (with adjustments)

But there’s fragility that wasn’t there before:

  • Construction walls visible
  • Cast Members redirect traffic
  • Characters appear in unexpected locations

Unique Photo Opportunity

The outdoor character locations offer something different, rare photo opportunities with a circus backdrop and visible construction, creating unique documentation of this transitional period.

But it’s clear this is a necessity, not a choice. Disney kicked Minnie Mouse and friends to the curb because the alternative was keeping them in structurally compromised buildings—something Disney won’t risk.

Until tents are fully repaired, reinforced, or replaced, outdoor meetings remain the reality for Storybook Circus characters.
