Disney Retires Stormtrooper Character From Theme Park
This character survived the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance, and decades of Star Wars lore…but a map redesign finally got him.
The Map Makeover That Started It All

Disneyland Paris Resort quietly pushed out updated digital park maps through its official apps earlier this month, swapping the previous 3-D-rendered style for a 2-D-drawn aesthetic that aligns the European resort more closely with its American counterparts.
X (formerly Twitter) user @DLPReport captured the change in detail, posting comparison images of the old and new versions side by side:

The new maps didn’t arrive without controversy. Disney Parks fans began raising questions about whether the illustrations were AI-generated using Google Maps satellite imagery, pointing to a suspicious detail: drawn versions of social distancing stickers appeared near “it’s a small world.” Disneyland Paris scrubbed these markings from the ground years ago, but they still show up in Google Maps aerial views.
A Hidden Fan Favorite, Gone Without a Word

Lost in the broader controversy was something smaller. Tucked into the previous map illustration of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was a Stormtrooper hidden at the base of the mountain, quietly hitching a ride on the Frontierland coaster. It was an easy Easter egg to miss, which made it all the more beloved by those who knew where to look.
Unfortunately, the new map doesn’t include the Star Wars character. X user @Seb_in_DLP shared a screenshot of the retired map detail:

Disneyland Paris Resort has not commented on the removal or indicated that the Star Wars character will be reinstated in a future version of the map.
