Magic Kingdom Day Guests Blocked on May 13 as Company Buys Private Access

Big changes are underway at Magic Kingdom Park, and 2026 is already shaping up to look very different at Walt Disney World Resort. Between the sweeping Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land expansions near Frontierland and a full repainting of Cinderella Castle, the Florida park is deep in transformation mode.

Now, guests planning spring vacations have another update to factor into their itineraries: Magic Kingdom will be closing much earlier than usual on May 13, 2026.

According to the current operating calendar, Magic Kingdom is scheduled to close at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. While the park will open at its normal morning time, the day will wrap up more than five hours earlier than many visitors expect during the spring travel season.

Typically, Magic Kingdom remains open until at least 9:00 p.m., with 10:00 p.m. or later closures common during busy periods. A 5:30 p.m. shutdown is a major adjustment and will significantly affect touring plans, dining reservations, and nighttime entertainment.

What’s Behind the Early Closure?

The shortened day appears to be tied to a private event associated with the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference, which is set to take place at the Orange County Convention Center. Conference attendees will be treated to a special after-hours buyout titled “Celebration Night at Magic Kingdom.”

The official SAP website teases the exclusive gathering: “Enjoy iconic attractions, beloved Disney characters, delicious food, and a private concert against the backdrop of Cinderella Castle—a celebration night you won’t want to miss.”

Private buyouts are not unusual at Walt Disney World, but when they involve Magic Kingdom—the most visited theme park in the world—they tend to draw attention. During these events, regular day guests are required to exit the park so that invited attendees can enjoy exclusive access to rides, entertainment, and themed offerings.

This particular event is expected to feature character meet-and-greets, live entertainment, and a private concert staged directly in front of Cinderella Castle. The Dave Matthews Band is scheduled to perform as part of the evening festivities.

What This Means for Regular Guests

For those visiting Magic Kingdom during the day on May 13, the impact is straightforward: the park will close to standard ticket holders at 5:30 p.m. That means no fireworks, no nighttime parades, and no late rides on attractions.

Early theme park entry for eligible Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests will still take place that morning, and the park will operate normally throughout the early afternoon. However, by late afternoon, cast members will begin ushering day guests out in preparation for the private event. Nearby resort hotels and other parks may see increased demand for evening dining that night.

Park hopping may be the best solution for those looking to extend their day. EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are all expected to maintain regular hours on May 13. Disney Springs also offers shopping, dining, and entertainment options for guests seeking an alternative evening experience.

While private events occur throughout the year, they often fly under the radar until Disney updates the park calendar. This closure stands out due to its timing in May, which is typically a popular travel month, and because it affects Magic Kingdom specifically.

At this time, no additional early closures have been announced around that date. However, park hours can shift as demand and special events are finalized.

If you’re heading to Walt Disney World in May 2026, keep an eye on official operating hours and adjust plans accordingly. For May 13 visitors, planning ahead will be essential to make the most of your day before Cinderella Castle goes quiet earlier than expected.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible.
