X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DisneyScoopGuy witnessed the incident on January 29 and shared photos showing a plastic rose wrapped with paper inside the gas-powered fireplace:

Someone wrapped a letter around a fake rose and attempted to throw it in the gas powered fireplace outside Hearthstone Lounge at the Grand Californian Hotel.
Throwing flammable materials into a gas powered fireplace isn’t just dumb, it’s also incredibly dangerous.

The incident occurred in a high-traffic area outside Hearthstone Lounge, where families frequently wait for seating or relax in the Disney Resort hotel lobby.

Multiple Safety Risks

Throwing plastic into a gas-powered fire creates several dangers. The material could feed flames beyond their controlled parameters, burning nearby people, or igniting flammable items outside the fireplace. Burning plastic releases toxic fumes that can cause or worsen health problems for people and animals in the area.

The plastic rose and attached paper appear to have fallen behind artificial logs and largely avoided open flames. Disney cast members are likely to have removed the items once they were discovered.

No injuries were reported from the incident. Whether the guest faced consequences remains unclear. Disneyland Resort has not commented publicly on the social media post about the incident.

What Guests Should Do

Witnesses to dangerous or rule-breaking behavior at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort should not intervene directly. The safest response is alerting the nearest Disney cast member, who can follow company protocol and contact security or law enforcement if necessary.
