The World of ‘The Lion King’ Is About To Change, Disney Confirms

Disney is expanding the universe of The Lion King (1994) next month with an entirely new entertainment experience. The transformation arrives March 10, 2026, when Disney Adventure launches with “The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky”—a fireworks spectacular marking the first time the Pride Lands story has been told through pyrotechnics at sea.

Disney Parks Blog announced Tuesday that “The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky” will combine pyrotechnics and dramatic lighting to celebrate the 1994 Walt Disney Animation Studios film’s story, music, and characters.

“Introducing ‘The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky’ 🎆 — a new fireworks show on the Disney Adventure that will pay tribute to the iconic Walt Disney Animation Studios film 🦁,” Disney wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The show features reimagined orchestral arrangements of “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” “He Lives in You,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” recorded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and South Africa’s Ndlovu Youth Choir. Shah Rukh Khan—Mufasa’s voice in Hindi-language versions of The Lion King (2019) and Mufasa (2024)—provides narration for the spectacular.

The fireworks format allows Disney to present The Lion King in environments previously impossible—specifically, the open ocean, where traditional stage productions and dark ride attractions cannot exist. “The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky” plays select nights during three- and four-night Disney Adventure sailings, with showtimes available through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.

New Ship Debuts on March 10

Disney Adventure sets sail March 10, 2026, from Singapore on its maiden voyage. The newest Disney Cruise Line vessel has completed construction and is currently undergoing sea trials before official service begins.

The ship targets Southeast Asian markets with entertainment offerings spanning Marvel Studios, Duffy and Friends, Disney Princesses, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Oversized Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse sculptures dominate the stern. The vessel introduces the first outdoor Disney Imagination Garden, featuring a three-deck-high “Storybook Castle” sculpture.

At dinnertime, guests rotate through pairs of sister restaurants: Enchanted Summer Restaurant and Pixar Market Restaurant; Hollywood Spotlight Club and Navigator’s Club; and Animator’s Palate and Animator’s Table. National Geographic and Duffy and Friends both have dedicated merchandise locations on board.

Several theme park-style attractions operate aboard the ship: Ironcycle Test Run (an at-sea roller coaster), Pym Quantum Racers, and Groot Galaxy Spin complement traditional pools and splash pads.
