Marvel Superheroes Replace Original International Culture Theme on ”it’s a small world”

“it’s a small world” receives its Marvel Cinematic Universe transformation once again on December 27. The temporary overlay brings Groot and fellow superheroes back to the classic boat ride, replacing the traditional international theme with MCU characters on a global vacation.

“it’s a small world” Overlay Returns

“it’s a small world” with Groot originally debuted at Tokyo Disneyland on January 15, 2025, running through June 30. The limited-time attraction proved exceptionally popular, drawing thousands of daily Disney Park guests eager to experience Marvel characters integrated into the ride’s well-known aesthetic.

Tokyo Disney Resort capitalized on the overlay’s success by offering exclusive merchandise featuring MCU characters rendered in the distinctive “it’s a small world” art style. The designs paid homage to Disney Legend Mary Blair’s iconic visual contributions to the original theme park attraction.

Following enthusiastic guest response, Tokyo Disney Resort announced the overlay’s return earlier this year. The attraction closed in November for the reinstallation of Marvel elements, with the December 27 reopening date now confirmed. Tokyo Disney Resort has not announced when the temporary MCU transformation will end.

Tokyo Disneyland enhances the experience with a Marvel comic accessible only through the Tokyo Disney Resort app. Guests waiting in the ride queue can read “It’s a Small World with Groot: On the Move!” on their mobile devices after joining the line. Accessing the comic requires guests to enable Bluetooth, location services, and push notifications on their devices.

This marks the second exclusive comic created for the overlay. “it’s a small world with Groot: Take Off” launched alongside the attraction’s January debut, also exclusively available via the Tokyo Disney Resort app.

No Plans for U.S. Parks

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans hoping to experience “it’s a small world” with Groot must travel to Tokyo Disney Resort. Neither Disneyland Resort nor Walt Disney World Resort has announced plans to bring the overlay to Disneyland Park or Magic Kingdom Park.
