Disney’s New Parade Won’t Run for Nearly Two Weeks

Magic Kingdom glows a little brighter during the holidays, but this year brings a twist that some guests may not expect. Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away — the nighttime parade that quickly became one of the park’s biggest summer hits — won’t be running every night in December. In fact, Disney has taken it off the schedule on twelve different evenings, and anyone hoping to catch it during their winter trip will want to look closely at the dates before finalizing their plans.

Starlight captured fans almost immediately when it debuted earlier this year. With illuminated floats, a vibrant soundtrack, and beloved characters lighting up the night, it offered the kind of after-dark excitement many guests felt had been missing from Magic Kingdom. Naturally, people assumed it would be a staple throughout December, especially when the parks get busier and nighttime entertainment becomes even more important.

But December at Disney World follows its own set of rules, and one event in particular takes priority: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Because this after-hours celebration takes over Magic Kingdom on select nights, Disney adjusts its entertainment schedule to make room for the special holiday offerings that come with the event. That means the usual 8 PM and 10 PM performances of Starlight simply can’t happen on party nights.

Guests visiting on December 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, and 21 won’t see Starlight at all — but they will get access to the exclusive Christmas entertainment that only partygoers can enjoy. The heart of that celebration is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, a cheerful mix of music, characters, performers, and even Santa himself. It’s one of the most festive parades Disney offers all year, and it creates a completely different vibe from the regular nighttime lineup.

On top of that, the party includes snowfall on Main Street, complimentary treats, seasonal shows, and plenty of Christmassy surprises tucked around the park. Even though Starlight won’t run those nights, guests attending the event still get a full, holiday-themed evening.

If your December trip includes Magic Kingdom and you want to see the new parade, plan for a non-party night. But if you’re heading to the Christmas event instead, rest assured: you’ll still get a magical nighttime experience — just one wrapped in twinkling lights, peppermint scents, and holiday cheer.
